It was great to welcome the Hon Sabine Winton MLA, Minister for Wheatbelt, and the Hon Amber-Jade Sanderson MLA, Minister for Energy and Decarbonisation, to Merredin last week🌾

Minister Winton met with the Shire of Merredin to discuss the opportunities and challenges shaping regional growth, including workforce and skills, housing, infrastructure and local content, before visiting Merredin Glazing Service, where a Regional Economic Development (RED) Grant is strengthening local manufacturing capability and improving productivity.

With Merredin playing a key role in the renewable energy transition, Ministers Winton and Sanderson visited Collgar Wind Farm, highlighting how the eastern Wheatbelt’s wind resource is supporting a more reliable and balanced energy system. They also met with Njaki Njaki leaders and Maarli Services, whose involvement in major projects reflects the growing role of Aboriginal businesses and the opportunities emerging alongside the transition.

Minister Sanderson also visited the Merredin Big Battery project, which is currently under construction and expected to be operational in late 2026, further reinforcing the Wheatbelt’s role in WA’s clean energy future.

Together, these initiatives reflect a Wheatbelt that is diversifying, growing and helping to shape WA’s future 🍃

And, of course, no visit to Merredin is complete without a stop at Wheatbelt Coffee Time to keep the day moving ☕
