Great multi-agency HAZMAT training focused on responding to a potential chemical incident at the Wundowie Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Each agency spoke about their role in an incident response, when situations should be escalated, and the capabilities and resources they can provide during a chemical emergency.

Combined training with Wundowie Volunteer Fire & Rescue Service, Wheatbelt District - WA Police Force, Shire of Northam and Water Corporation.

It was a valuable opportunity for our newer members to gain knowledge on use of fully enclosed gas suits and more complex hazmat incidents, and strengthen communication, coordination and preparedness across all responding organisations.

Thanks to all involved for sharing their knowledge and experience.

We had a crew on standby today at the Beverley Airshow with other emergency services volunteers from Beverley and Toodyay. It was fantastic to witness such complex aerial manoeuvres performed so professionally and without incident.

With over 7,500 attendees from across Australia and abroad, this was one of the largest events we have assisted with as a fire and rescue response team.

It was also great to see educational displays of a Parks and Wildlife Service, Western Australia fixed-wing water bomber and the Royal Flying Doctor Service WA aircraft and demonstrations by Department of Fire and Emergency Services WA helitaks. A brilliant airshow and a credit to Paul Bennet Airshows, Beverley Soaring Society, Visit Beverley WA and all the other performers, volunteers and support crews involved in making this event possible.

The aerial acrobatics and aviation display event is WA's only airshow and has returned to Beverley after 25 years.

Some of our firefighters competed in the annual State Championships Firefighter Running Competition in Bunbury over the Easter weekend. Northam had two teams and members also competed in a number of individual events. Lots of great runs and it's always a fun team building experience.

We placed 2nd in a team pump applicance event, 3rd place in the Ladder 5's race event in a team with Kellerberrin Fire Brigade Senior Running Team members and one of our firefighters placed well in a number of the individual ladder race events and was selected for the WA State Team.

Huge thank you to:
Our Brigade Life Members who helped us set up for events and volunteered to judge and referee events. Partners and family members for all the support on the day and throughout training.
Volunteer Fire & Rescue Services Association of WA Inc and Department of Fire and Emergency Services WA for making the event possible.
Bunbury Volunteer Fire & Rescue Service for hosting us on your track.
and to all the other competitors, volunteers and spectators!

26/03/2026

Please take note as although there is still some uncertainty about Narelleโ€™s exact path and impacts, heavy rainfall is likely and there is potential for damaging winds further inland and south across the South West Land Division, including Northam.

โ„น๏ธ For the latest information visit emergency.wa.gov.au or download the Emergency WA app.

WAโ€ฆ this oneโ€™s really ramping up ๐Ÿ˜ฒ๐ŸŒช๏ธ

Cyclone Narelle is now a Category 2 system, tracking fast west-southwest offshore along the Pilbara coast towards Exmouth.

The Bureau says Narelle is a large system and is expected to intensify to a Category 3 overnight before turning south and potentially strengthening further to a Category 4 on Thursday, ahead of passing the North West Cape (including Exmouth) on Friday.

But Narelleโ€™s exact path and intensity at crossing remain uncertain, with the system potentially crossing anywhere from Exmouth as a Category 4 to as far south as Jurien Bay as a Category 2.

Impacts are starting to build, with gales along the Pilbara coast and the potential for severe impacts along the far western Pilbara coast late Thursday, extending south towards Denham as the system turns on Friday, along with dangerous storm tide between Exmouth and Denham bringing large waves, coastal erosion and flooding of low-lying areas.

From Saturday, Narelle is expected to move south-southeast, spreading heavy rain and stormy conditions through the Central West, including Perth, with the potential for damaging winds, and further inland and south across the South West Land Division.

One thingโ€™s for sureโ€ฆ now is the time to prepare:
โœ… Review your emergency plan
โœ… Pack an emergency kit including a portable battery-operated radio, torch, spare batteries, mobile phone and charger, first aid kit, prescription medication and enough food and water for 5โ€“7 days - pets included ๐Ÿถ
โœ… Secure loose items around your property โ€“ tie down trampolines so they donโ€™t end up in your neighbourโ€™s yard ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ
โœ… Travellers and tourists โ€“ reconsider travel to the warning area

And do emergency services a favour will ya... stay well clear of floodwaters! Even if you think your trusty 4WD can handle it, itโ€™s not worth the risk ๐Ÿš™
