⚠️ Elevated Fire Weather Forecast for Tomorrow ⚠️

While tomorrow officially marks the end of the Fire Danger Season, dry conditions remain across the state and continue to pose an increased fire risk.

This week alone, our volunteers have responded to more than 14 grass fires across the state, highlighting how quickly fires can start and spread.

🔥 With the risk still in the landscape, please take caution and remain vigilant when conducting any activity involving fire.

If conducting a burn, ensure a responsible person is in attendance at all times, water or a suitable fire extinguisher is available, and regularly check once the fire is extinguished to ensure it hasn't reignited. Ensure you follow any local restrictions or guidelines.

Your actions can help prevent unwanted fires and keep our communities safe.

Good to see former member Phil continuing to serve.

Twenty years ago, Phil started firefighting to help his community, today it's a part of who he is…

🙋‍♂️Name: Philip van der Hoek
🚗Day job: Fleet Coordinator
👨‍🚒Role in the fire crew: Fire Supervisor

I joined the Norton Summit/Ashton CFS brigade with my brother in 2006, straight after finishing school. The year before, our community had been hit by several major emergencies - fires, flooding - it made me want to step up and help.

20 years later, I’m still loving it and have been with OneFortyOne for three years. Recently I’ve been learning more about incident management and developing my skills leading our crews.

The adrenaline of responding to fire and getting to work knowing that we are protecting the community and the landscape we live in feels great.

When we’re not firefighting, I really enjoy training. Running out hoses, doing drills and getting out in the forest is awesome.
