A great morning spent with Jack Batty MP - Member for Bragg at Marryatville High School. We presented flags to the students who will be travelling to Japan next week for an exciting cultural and language tour! They will be wonderful representatives for our great State and Nation.

Bird flu is no longer a distant threat. It's here.

In the Senate, I joined the Invasive Species Council's call for urgent action to strengthen wildlife resilience, protect critical habitats and ensure Australia's native species are better equipped to withstand the impacts of bird flu.

This week in the Senate, I had the privilege of speaking on one of the most beautiful and environmentally significant places in our Nation, the Great Australian Bight. My support for World Heritage listing of the Bight and the Nullarbor has not wavered by one degree of latitude!

You can listen to my speech below, where I explore more immediate ways of protecting this part of South Australia.

With the ongoing threat posed by H5 bird flu, it was a timely visit by the Invasive Species Council in Canberra this week.

Thank you to James Johnston and Claire Bookless for briefing me on the potential devastation facing Australian wildlife, and the importance of maintaining strong biosecurity arrangements, particularly in South Australia.

A beautiful and moving Malaya and Borneo Veterans Day Service of Commemoration held at the West Torrens War Memorial Gardens.

Tributes were laid to remember those killed in action and to honour all the Australians who bravely served during the Malayan Emergency and Indonesian Confrontation.

Congratulations to President Paul Rosenzweig OAM and his team of volunteers from SA/NT Branch, National Malaya-Borneo Veterans Association of Australia Inc for all their hard work in organising the service.

It was a pleasure to host the Parliamentary Friendship Group for Ending Poverty in Canberra with my Co-Chair, Alicia Payne MP.

Thank you to the Brotherhood of St. Laurence and Australian Council of Social Service for briefing us on the latest research on poverty in Australia. It was also moving to hear accounts from some of our most vulnerable in society.

Wonderful to catch up with Christabel Mitchell, Oceans Director of The Pew Charitable Trusts.

Pew’s ocean work supports efforts to create protected areas that help restore marine ecosystems, while sustaining the communities that depend on them.

Honoured to Co-Chair the Parliamentary Friends of Veterans Group with Matt Burnell MP in Canberra this month.

In partnership with Matt Keogh, the Minister of Veterans’ Affairs and Defence Personnel, we hosted the launch of the Veteran and Family Wellbeing Agency.

The Agency has been established following the recommendation of the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Su***de. It represents an important step in improving support for veterans and their families.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in marking this important milestone.
