We would like to inform you that Shoalhaven Family Day Care has now closed after Shoalhaven City Council made the decision earlier this year to cease delivering family day care .

Thank you to the educators, families and community for being part of our journey—we will cherish the moments and friendships we've built along the way.

National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day is today, August 4th.
This year’s theme, ‘Little Footsteps, Big Future,’ honours the journeys National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children take as they grow – each step guided by culture, community and connection to Country.
We recognise the importance of nurturing children’s voices and dreams. Together, we can support a future where every child walks strong in their identity and is empowered to shape their own path.

🌿 NAIDOC Week 2025 🌿
Theme: "The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy"

This NAIDOC Week, we proudly honour the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. At Shoalhaven Family Day Care, we are committed to fostering respect, understanding, and connection with the world’s oldest living cultures.

We celebrate not only the achievements of the past but the bright future ahead. We believe in nurturing young hearts and minds to grow with empathy, curiosity, and pride in the rich cultural heritage of this land, and in this way we empower young children to become future leaders.

Let’s walk together in celebration and solidarity.

Looking for a body image booster for the young people in your life?
This month, try to flip the focus of the compliments you give. Swap appearance-based compliments like “You look pretty today” or "You've got model potential!" for more meaningful compliments like “You looked so focused in training” or “You were so kind helping your friend.” This builds confidence rooted in who they are and what they do, not how they look.

National Reconciliation Week, celebrated from May 27 to June 3, is a time to reflect on the relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians and work towards reconciliation. In early childhood settings, it's a chance to engage children in learning about Indigenous cultures, histories, and the ongoing journey towards reconciliation. The theme for 2025 is "Bridging Now to Next," encouraging educators to explore the meaning of reconciliation and its relevance for future generations.

Family members take turns competing in fun challenges that get your bodies moving and develop fundamental movement skills.

Try out these activities in your family Olympics:

Backyard running race (or running relay if you have 4 or more family members)
Basketball dribble – who can dribble a ball the longest?
Equestrian – set up a scarf or skipping rope on the ground. Whoever does the biggest leap wins.
Sock toss- set up an empty washing basket in the middle of the yard. Each participant takes turns to try and get a ball of socks into the basket.

Encourage children to pick something special from home—a favourite toy, book, stuffed animal, etc. and talk about why it’s important to them.

Conversation starters:

What did you choose to share?
Where did you get it from?
Why is it special to you?
How does it make you feel when you play with or look at it?
