🧰 Congrats to BJ White from Batemans Bay High School who was announced the VET Student of the Year at the 2026 South Coast Schools Excellence in Vocational Education and Training Awards.
BJ was commended by teachers and his host employer for his exceptional effort in his construction course.
22 students from high schools across the Eurobodalla were recognised at today’s awards held at the Moruya Golf Club.

🏆 I was so proud to present awards of excellence to 22 VET (Vocational Education & Training) students from Eurobodalla high schools today.
The students studied a diverse range of subjects through Workplace Learning, from construction and entertainment, to hairdressing and conservation & ecosystem management.
I am a massive supporter of VET studies that open up the door to employment opportunities for young people. Students complete their studies and work placement with local businesses while at school.
Congrats to the students, teachers, mentors and businesses on another successful program.

🌺 I just love meeting vibrant young women who are kicking goals and helping make our community even better.
Today, I had an opportunity to meet Ayla, a Wollongong Uni student from a farming family in Griffith, who is also working at A Taste of Paradise Farm Broughton Village
Ayla has a keen interest in politics, foreign affairs and agriculture and hopes to study in Vietnam next year.
It’s so great to see young women from regional areas empowered and dreaming big.
I wish Ayla well in her studies and future career, whatever path she takes.
Today marks 40 years of workplace equality action and we’ve made some huge changes in our country to support and uplift women in the workforce, education, healthcare and in the home.
I’m proud to come from a long line of strong and resilient women, and I’m also very proud to be part of a gender equal federal government, where our caucus is 56 women and our cabinet is gender equal for the first time ever. 💪

🏠 I was delighted to officially open the renovations at Banksia Village in Broulee.
I was proud to deliver $3.8 million federal funding from the Albanese Labor Government for this important project which includes two residential buildings providing the ‘small house’ model of care.
Banksia is one of the first aged care facilities in the region to role out the small house model which is consistent with the recommendations of the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety.
This model of care will result in improved health and wellbeing outcomes for residents.
The new spaces include a home-style kitchen, lounge areas and dining rooms, as well as beautiful verandahs that can be used by residents.
There’s also a new cafe serving lunch and all sorts of treats for residents and their guests.
The village is surrounded by gorgeous flower and vegetables gardens, providing plenty of outdoor spaces to enjoy.
It was so great to take a tour and meet the wonderful staff and residents, who say life at Banksia is like living in a resort!
Banksia Villages is a community owned, not for profit, charitable aged care organisation that has been operating since 1995.
I know how much we desperately need more aged care beds in our region, and I will continue to support the aged care sector to deliver better quality care for our older loved ones.

✅Apprenticeships create pathways into secure and rewarding jobs while helping employers build the workforce they need.
That’s why the Albanese Labor Government is investing in apprentices with permanent free TAFE and $10,000 for construction students over the course of their apprenticeship to help with the cost of tools, equipment and transport etc.
Eligible employers can also receive up to $5,000 to support apprentices through their first year.
This is so good for local students and opens the door to a great career.

Great to see work well underway on a new roundabout on the Princes Highway south of Moruya.
I’m proud to have delivered $4 million from the Australian Government’s Housing Support Program - Community Enabling Infrastructure Stream - for this project that will provide safer access to a future new housing estate and improved access to the TAFE and the future Emergency Services Precinct as well.
Thanks to Eurobodalla Council for managing this important road project.
