Over the past few days, crews have responded to numerous escaped burns across the state. With elevated fire conditions forecast across the weekend, we are urging residents to take extra care when conducting your burns.

While fire agencies and land managers will be closely monitoring areas where hazard reduction burns have been conducted earlier this week, we are also asking landholders to closely monitor their own burns.

If you are in an area currently within its Bush Fire Danger Period, you must have a permit from your local brigade and notify your neighbours and the RFS at least 24 hours before conducting your burn.

Just a reminder that the area is expecting strong winds over the next few days. Please keep an eye on any 'burns' you have iniated & ensure they remain contained.

With strong winds forecast across parts of the Snowy Monaro this weekend, residents and landholders are urged to take extra care with any activity that could start a fire. Gusty conditions can quickly turn a small flame, spark or smouldering hotspot into a fast-moving grass or bush fire.

Previous burns are not always out. Heat can sit in logs, root systems and ash beds for days or weeks, and strong winds can reignite them. Check old burn sites and make sure they are cold before leaving them unattended.

Burning off is still a good way to reduce fuel loads and prepare your property, but it needs to be done safely. If you are planning to burn, consider waiting until the winds ease. If you do light up, keep it small, notify your neighbours and the Fire Control Centre beforehand, have water and people on hand, and stay with it until it is completely out.

Hot works such as welding, grinding, cutting or using machinery that may produce sparks should be postponed if they are not essential. If work must proceed, keep a cleared area around the task, have water or extinguishers on hand, maintain a fire watch, and monitor the area for at least 30 minutes afterwards.
Now is also a good time to review your bush fire survival plan, check your firefighting equipment, and report any unattended fire or smoke immediately.

A little preparation and caution can prevent a fire from becoming an emergency. Stay safe this weekend. 🔥🚒

Dust off the mower, clean out the trailer and get busy preparing for the forthcoming fire season.
Locals can always contact the Brigade for advice but at the end of the day people know what they have to do:-
prepare a fire plan;
clear fire threats from around house and sheds etc;
have some form of fire protection available; and speak to neighbours etc.

Prepare for Bush Fire Season with Get Ready Weekend 2026
As the bush fire season approaches, now is the time to understand your bush fire risk and take simple steps to prepare your home, property and family. To help you get ready, the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) hosts Get Ready Weekend events across the state, providing free information, practical advice and resources to help you prepare before the fire season begins.

With hundreds of events taking place across NSW, Get Ready Weekend is your opportunity to get practical advice from your local RFS brigade, ask questions about your property's bush fire risk and learn simple actions that could make a real difference this fire season.

Every event is different, but many include demonstrations, displays, family-friendly activities, practical advice from volunteers and resources to help you prepare for the bush fire season. You can also learn how to create a Bush Fire Survival Plan, prepare your home and property, understand the Australian Fire Danger Rating System (AFDRS), and discover the steps you can take to be better prepared.

Get Ready Weekend 2026 will be held across NSW, with most events taking place on 19–20 September.

Well I can think of several comments but most would get me sent to the Face Book naughty corner so…bother!
For the Brigade: our Captain’s prediction was correct but don’t tell him. For the rest of us. Dust off the uniform, clean the boots, whether they need it or not, and figure out if you remember which end of the truck is the front.

Well it took a bit but the Brigade held its AGM this afternoon.

Further info will be issued after the Draft Minutes have been produced but Terry Myers continues as Captain. and Rob de Rooy as our President.

Thanks to Rob et al for making it happen. and he has even set a date for the 2027 meeting of 16 May!! The book is now open.
