Last night at training we went over some stove
tops fires with a practical exercise as well as
some theory work on chimney/fireplace fires.

Below is a video demonstrating how NOT to use
a fire blanket for a stove top fire:
❌ Do NOT panic
❌ Do NOT try and move the pan or pot on fire
❌ Do NOT throw the blanket
❌ Do NOT remove the blanket too early

Why this matters:
As the video demonstrates the stove fire doesn't
extinguish and the fire can spread further when
pushed by a fire blanket that's thrown towards it.

Instead you SHOULD:
✅ Call emergency services 000
✅ Ensure stove is turned off
✅ Use the fire blanket as protection with the
corners folded in over your hands to prevent
burns
✅ Approach fire calmly
✅ Gently lay blanket over the top of the stove to
cover all flames
✅ Leave the blanket on the fire and call for help if
not done so already, do not remove until fire
service has arrived to ensure the fire does not
reignite.

The second video demonstrates how this calm
approach fully extinguishes the fire properly
without causing further fire activity in the
immediate surroundings.

Tuesday was a busy day for our brigade with 3 callouts 2 of which running for extended periods. A big thankyou to all our volunteers for their time spent at these jobs.

The first job was a out of control burn off that Northern Barossa BW11 attended at Kapunda. This job was a good example that even though we are out of fire season now, a lot of vegetation in the area is still quite dry.

At almost the same time that the first job was responded we also had a call for a Fire Alarm.

Then later in the day just when crews from the Kapunda incident had arrived back at station there was a call for a shed fire at Vine Vale.

We provided assistance with Northern Barossa BW11 and BA crews on our Pumper.

On Monday night this week we worked on some interbrigade skills sharing! We hosted 6 current and future leaders of Dalkeith CFS for practical training on forcible entry.

Forcible entry is a skill needed to make rapid entry into residential and commercial structures during emergencies or threats to life.
