Last weekend, Nyngan SES members joined volunteers from across the surrounding area to undertake Field Core Skills training.

Field Core Skills is one of the first key training courses our members complete, building the practical skills and confidence needed to work safely and effectively as part of an SES team.

From working with equipment and ropes to essential field skills, it's all about learning the foundations that prepare our volunteers to help their community when it matters most.

👏 A fantastic effort from everyone who took part and another great step forward for our Nyngan members.

⚠️ AusAlert is a new national warning system that uses the latest technology to send emergency messages to compatible mobile devices.

It will be ready to use in October 2026, but before it launches, we need to test the system across Australia.

‼️ On Monday 27 July, your mobile devices, such as mobile phones, tablets and smart watches, may receive a test alert.

The test times across Australian time zones are:
• 2:00 pm AEST (QLD, NSW, ACT, VIC, TAS)
• 1:30 pm ACST (SA, NT, Broken Hill NSW)
• 12:00 pm AWST (WA)

The message will vibrate and include a loud, siren-like sound that lasts about 10 seconds.
If this could disrupt you or cause you or a loved one to feel unsafe, please turn off your mobile devices or switch them to aeroplane mode before the scheduled test time in your location, and leave them off for at least one hour.

As this is just a test, you don’t need to do anything, but in an actual disaster you should follow the alert instructions to keep yourself and others safe.

We’re preparing for the impacts of severe thunderstorms across much of NSW from today through to the weekend ⛈️

Severe thunderstorms are possible over the central and northern slopes and ranges this afternoon and evening.

What are we expecting from these storms?
🔹Damaging winds exceeding 90km/h
🔹Large hail exceeding 2cm in diameter
🔹Localised heavy falls leading to flash flooding.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected to increase over the next two days.

Conditions are expected to ease late Friday, before another bout of thunderstorms for many areas over the weekend, contracting to the North on Monday.

⚠️There's a risk of fallen trees and excess runoff, particularly after bushfires, so we are urging people to monitor conditions, be alert and stay away from overhanging branches.

📲Download Hazards Near Me or visit the NSW SES website to stay up to date with warnings and information, especially as the weather moves through and may affect other areas.

🛑If you come across a flooded road, turn around and find a safer route.

Ensure you and your home are ready:
🔸 Move your car under cover or away from trees and powerlines
🔸Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
🔸Unplug computers and appliances and avoid using the phone during the storm.
🔸Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
