Did you know that the hazards near me app allows you to show your location and direction?

If you see smoke, open the app, point your phone toward the smoke (while standing still and not driving) and the blue arrow will point in that direction.

By doing this, you may be able to identify what incident it is and get the latest information.

🔥 HIGH Fire Danger Rating – Saturday 5 September

A HIGH Fire Danger Rating is forecast for the Mid Coast District tomorrow.

With warmer and drier conditions, residents are encouraged to remain alert, know what they will do if a fire starts, and closely monitor any recent burns.

Be ready to act and stay up to date with local conditions.

Over the past few days, crews have responded to numerous escaped burns across the state. With elevated fire conditions forecast across the weekend, we are urging residents to take extra care when conducting your burns.

While fire agencies and land managers will be closely monitoring areas where hazard reduction burns have been conducted earlier this week, we are also asking landholders to closely monitor their own burns.

If you are in an area currently within its Bush Fire Danger Period, you must have a permit from your local brigade and notify your neighbours and the RFS at least 24 hours before conducting your burn.

Old Bar Pumper remains on scene at a large commercial shed fire at the Tuncurry Waste Management plant.

The Bush Fire Danger Period begins in the Mid Coast Area tomorrow, 1 September 2026.

If you're planning to burn vegetation or conduct burning on your property, check the rules before you light up.

🔥 Do you need a fire permit? YES
📋 Are there restrictions on burning? YES
📞 Have you completed any required notifications?
🌬️ Have you checked the weather and Fire Danger Rating?
💧 Do you have enough water and equipment to control the fire?

Never assume that because conditions look suitable, it's safe or legal to burn.

If you're unsure, contact your local NSW RFS Fire Control Centre before lighting up.
