Orange & Cabonne Road Safety

Orange & Cabonne Road Safety The Orange Cabonne Road Safety Program is a community campaign with a focus on changing behaviour to develop safer road safety practices.

The Orange Cabonne Road Safety Officer has two key objectives:

• Increase the priority of road safety within Local Government and Local Government representative agencies
• Improve the coordination of Local Government road safety activities with State and National road safety initiatives

The position of Road Safety Officer (RSO) covers two Local Government Areas, the City of Orange and Cabonne S

hire. Three funding bodies fund the Local Government Road Safety Program (LGRSP). These are Orange City Council, Cabonne Council and the NSW govt's Roads & Maritime Services (RMS). The role of the RSO is primarily an educator in the community with a focus on behavioural change programs to facilitate safer road user practices. Programs are developed and implemented to address local road safety issues.

🌏 International research shows that daytime running lights and headlights reduce multi-vehicle crashes by increasing visibility—especially in low light, bad weather, or complex traffic environments.
It’s simple:
👉 Lights on = Seen sooner
👉 Seen sooner = Safer roads
Don’t wait for dusk. Make it a habit every trip.
Be Seen. Be Safe. Drive with your headlights on—day and night.

“As fleet operators, we know fatigue is not a personal failing — it’s a biological reality. For decades we’ve relied on messages about willpower and pushing through, yet fatigue continues to claim lives. The science is clear: the only solution for fatigue is sleep. Power Nap gives drivers permission to stop, rest and return home safely.”

“Professional drivers don’t need more reminders to tough it out — they need support to stop when fatigue hits. Power Nap reframes rest as a professional safety decision, not a delay, and that cultural shift is critical to lowering the road toll.” Traffic and Highway Patrol Command - NSW Police Force

🚗 Most crashes aren’t about skill — they’re about visibility.

Every time you drive, you’re relying on other people to see you in time to react.

Here’s the problem:
The human brain picks up movement first, and only then works out what it’s looking at. That delay can be the difference between a near miss and a crash.

💡 Turning your headlights on every trip, every time — day and night — makes your vehicle stand out earlier in a driver’s field of view.

🌏 International evidence shows increased visibility reduces multi-vehicle crash risk. It’s not about lighting the road… it’s about making you visible.

Simple habit. Proven impact.
👉 Lights on = earlier detection
👉 Earlier detection = more time to react
👉 More time = fewer crashes

No tech. No cost. No downside.

Be Seen. Be Safe. Drive with your headlights on 24/7.
