Severe Thunderstorm Warning - Melbourne Area - for heavy rainfall and damaging winds.

Where:
For people in parts of Inner East, Inner, Northern, Outer East, South East and Western Local Warning Areas.

Locations which may be affected include Ringwood, Bayswater and Belgrave by 3:45 pm and Gembrook, Croydon and Monbulk by 4:15 pm.

When:
Severe thunderstorms with localised heavy rainfall and damaging wind gusts in parts of Melbourne over the next several hours.

Situation:
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 3:15 pm, severe thunderstorms likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and damaging winds were detected near Preston and Sunbury. These thunderstorms are moving towards the southeast.

What you should do:
The Victoria State Emergency Service advises that people should:

* If driving conditions are dangerous, safely pull over away from trees, drains, low-lying areas and floodwater. Avoid travel if possible.

* Stay safe by avoiding dangerous hazards, such as floodwater, mud, debris, damaged roads and fallen trees.

* Be aware - heat, fire or recent storms may make trees unstable and more likely to fall when it's windy or wet.

* Check that loose items, such as outdoor settings, umbrellas and trampolines are safely secured. Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.

* Stay indoors and away from windows.

* If outdoors, move to a safe place indoors. Stay away from trees, drains, gutters, creeks and waterways.

* Stay away from fallen powerlines - always assume they are live.

* Stay informed: Monitor weather warnings, forecasts and river levels at the Bureau of Meteorology website, and warnings through VicEmergency website/app/hotline.

A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for parts of the Central, North Central and West and South Gippsland districts.

Other warnings may be current.

The next warning is due to be issued by 4:15 pm.

A Severe Weather Warning for Damaging Winds has been issued for parts of the East Gippsland, North Central, North East, West and South Gippsland and Central forecast districts for today, 9 April, with strong winds anticipated from this afternoon.

Locations which may be affected include Falls Creek, Mount Baw Baw, Mount Hotham, Mount Buller and Omeo.

Community members can prepare for storms by safely securing outdoor items such as furniture, trampolines and umbrellas and by parking vehicles undercover or away from trees where possible.

It’s been a wet week across Victoria and with severe storms forecast to persist throughout the state later today and into the weekend, now is the time for communities to get prepared and limit their emergency risk.

Thunderstorms with the potential to cause heavy rainfall and flash flooding are likely across much of the state over the coming days. They can appear anywhere and with little to no warning.

Community members in the warning area are encouraged to stay safe by never entering flood water and if driving conditions are dangerous, safely pull over away from trees, drains and low-lying areas.

For people in parts of Central, East Gippsland, Mallee, North East, West and South Gippsland, Wimmera, South West and North Central Forecast Districts.

When:
Slow-moving thunderstorms are continuing to develop in a very humid environment, bringing isolated heavy rainfall to parts of Victoria this afternoon.

Situation:
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Bacchus Marsh, Bright, Falls Creek, Murrayville, Dargo and Buchan.

Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the Northern Country district and the warning for this district is cancelled.

Further thunderstorms are expected to develop across the central ranges and across western Victoria today with possible heavy rainfall.

Impacts:
24.2 mm was recorded at Tambo River (Swifts Creek) in the 30 minutes to 2:00 pm.

* If driving conditions are dangerous, safely pull over away from trees, drains, low-lying areas and floodwater. Avoid travel if possible.
* Stay safe by avoiding dangerous hazards, such as floodwater, mud, debris, damaged roads and fallen trees.

Where:
For people in the Melbourne area for parts of Inner East and parts of Inner, South East, Northern and Outer East Local Warning Areas.

When:
Very dangerous thunderstorms producing intense rainfall over the northern and eastern suburbs of Melbourne.

Situation:
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 2:50 pm, VERY DANGEROUS THUNDERSTORMS likely to produce intense rainfall that may lead to dangerous and life-threatening flash flooding were detected near Greensborough and Camberwell. These thunderstorms are moving towards the south to southeast. They are forecast to affect Glen Waverley, Ringwood and Lilydale by 3:05 pm and Dandenong, Belgrave and Berwick by 3:20 pm.

Other severe thunderstorms likely to produce intense rainfall that may lead to dangerous and life-threatening flash flooding were detected near Preston and Reservoir. These thunderstorms are moving towards the south to southeast. They are forecast to affect Gembrook, Mill Park and Bundoora by 3:05 pm and the area east of Pakenham and the area northeast of Pakenham by 3:20 pm.

38.4 mm was recorded at Spring Hill in the 1 hour 15 minutes to 2:00 pm.

Widespread thunderstorms are forecast across Victoria throughout Tuesday, 24 February, including the chance of localised, severe thunderstorms developing with the capacity to cause flash flooding in some areas.
Now is the time to prepare your property for a significant rainfall event by clearing gutters, downpipes and drains and parking vehicles undercover or away from trees where possible.
Community members should also remain alert to dangerous road conditions if driving and remember to never drive through floodwater. Stay inside if conditions outside appear dangerous.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Damaging Winds has been issued for North Central and parts of Northern Country, North East, West and South Gippsland and Central Forecast Districts.

Gusty winds with showers and possible thunderstorms are expected in these areas this afternoon and evening.

Before the storm hits, please ensure loose items, such as outdoor settings, umbrellas and trampolines are safely secured, and move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
