🚒 25 years with CFA and still the first to put their hand up to help.

It’s helped build leadership skills that have been invaluable throughout my career and introduced me to lifelong friends.

🔨🚪 Today we got the opportunity to trial our new forcible entry door prop. This is a valuable training asset that will help our members develop and maintain the practical skills needed to gain entry during emergency incidents.

Forcible entry is a critical firefighting skill that may be required when lives, property, or incident control depend on rapid access to a building. Having our own training prop means we can safely and repeatedly practise these techniques in a controlled environment, helping build confidence, competence, and teamwork.

A huge thank you to the members who gave up their time today to build the prop. Not only have they created an excellent training resource for the brigade, but their efforts have also kick-started a renewed sense of motivation around improving and revitalising our station.

It’s fantastic to see members investing their time, skills, and energy into strengthening our brigade’s capability and future. Well done to everyone involved! 👏

🚒 If you see our tanker rolling out the door at an ESP call, there’s a good chance Cary is behind the wheel 👨‍🚒

From attending his first paddock fire to now regularly driving trucks and fighting fires from inside structures, Cary has become a huge part of the brigade in just over two years 🔥

👨‍🚒 Meet Cary

What inspired you to join CFA?
Watching the Bunyip fires in 2009 and 2019 showed me just how much CFA does for the community. Once I had the time to volunteer, joining was a no-brainer

How long have you been with CFA?
Just over two years as a qualified responder

How has CFA impacted your life?
It’s taught me how to stay calm under pressure, make quick decisions, and roll a LOT of fire hose 😅

Advice for anyone thinking of joining?
Do it. It’s challenging, rewarding, and serving your community is an incredible feeling

What happens when the pager goes off?
Quick mental check… then it’s socks, shoes, keys, and out the door 🚨

Most memorable brigade moment?
Having a resident thank us at a Bunnings fundraiser after we attended a fire at their home earlier that month. It was a reminder that what we do truly matters ❤️

Brigade culture in one sentence?
Bountiful banter… but everyone gets the job done 😅

Pakenham Fire Brigade had a fantastic time attending the ARB Pakenham’s Open Day on Saturday!

Our members enjoyed helping cook sausages for the community and putting plenty of people to the test with our hose bowling competition 🚒🎳

It was great to meet so many locals, have a few laughs, and be part of such a fun community event.

A big thank you to ARB Pakenham for having us and supporting the brigade. We appreciate the invitation and look forward to the next one!

This National Volunteer Week, we want to take a moment to recognise the incredible members who keep our brigade moving forward 🚒

From training nights and turnouts, to community events, maintenance, mentoring and the behind the scenes jobs that rarely get seen, our volunteers continue to show up with dedication, professionalism and a genuine commitment to protecting the community.

Over recent months, we’ve had a huge onboarding of new recruits joining the brigade. It’s been fantastic to see experienced members stepping up to guide, support and share their knowledge with the next generation. Watching confidence grow from week to week is one of the best parts of brigade life.

We’ve also seen a recent increase in turnouts for our specialised appliance, the BA Support vehicle. BA stands for Breathing Apparatus, the equipment firefighters wear in smoke filled or hazardous environments to safely carry breathable air. The BA Support vehicle plays a critical role at incidents by supporting crews using breathing apparatus, managing equipment, crew welfare, cylinder rotation and operational readiness on scene.

With this increase in operational demand, our members have been heavily focused on strengthening core skills, operational readiness and BA vehicle familiarisation training. From learning the layout of the appliance to understanding equipment capabilities and support operations, members have been putting in the work to ensure they are prepared when the pager sounds.

To every member, whether you joined 20 years ago or 20 days ago, thank you for the time, energy and heart you give to the brigade and community.

National Volunteer Week is a reminder that volunteering is powered by people, and we’re incredibly proud of ours 👏

🚒 We’ve officially wrapped up introducing our Brigade Management Team… now it’s time to introduce the members who help make Pakenham Fire Brigade what it is ❤️

First up is Annie, who completed her General Firefighter training yesterday 👏🔥

Safe to say she’s already counting down to hearing that pager go off for the first time 🚨

👩‍🚒 Meet Annie

What inspired you to join Pakenham Fire Brigade?
My best friend’s family has been with CFA for a few years and suggested I join. I gave it a go and it’s been such an amazing journey so far!

How long have you been part of CFA?
Just under 6 months, and it’s already been one of the most rewarding things I’ve done

How has CFA impacted your everyday life?
I’m an Early Childhood Educator, and the children I work with LOVE first responders 🚒
When I told them I was training to become a firefighter, their eyes lit up instantly. It’s helped me bring real fire safety knowledge into my work and create learning experiences for my little learners

How do you balance volunteering with everyday life?
Training nights have become something I genuinely look forward to every week. Even if life gets busy, it’s always worth making time for

Advice for anyone thinking about joining?
Do it! I was so nervous at the start, but it’s been one of the best things I’ve done

How do you think you’ll feel hearing the pager go off for your first call?
The adrenaline is definitely going to be pumping 😅 but I’m eager to get on the truck as soon as I can

Three words to describe yourself
Committed

Most memorable brigade moment so far?
Training in the pouring rain 🌧️ Seeing everyone willingly spend their night cold and soaked just to help others really stuck with me

How would you describe the brigade culture?
One big happy family ❤️

What keeps you motivated?
Knowing what I’m doing helps protect the local community makes it all worth it

Massive congratulations to our three members who successfully passed their General Fire Fighter (GFF) course today 🚒🔥

For those unfamiliar, the GFF course is where recruits are put through the paces to become operational firefighters. It covers everything from fire behaviour and hose work to pump operations, emergency response, and working safely under pressure. It’s physically demanding, mentally challenging, and built around teamwork, resilience, and keeping calm when things get chaotic.

Today’s conditions turned the challenge up another notch, with rain, wind, and cold making every evolution tougher, but the team dug deep and gave it 110% from start to finish.

A fantastic effort and a huge milestone.

Well done, and we look forward to having you join us on the trucks 🚨

Did you know that almost two thirds of people who die in house fires have a
disability?
Prevent, Detect, Escape is a free online learning module to support at risk
people with planning for fire emergencies at home. The module is made for
people at increased fire risk, and for those who support or care for them.

🚒 You’ll usually find Nathan in the passenger seat of our pumper tanker… mainly because Dave has already called dibs on the driver’s seat 😅

Meet Nathan, Captain of Pakenham Fire Brigade

From managing brigade operations and supporting members on the fireground, to helping steer the brigade behind the scenes, Nathan plays a huge role in keeping Pakenham Fire Brigade running strong

But if you’ve been around the station on a Sunday, you’ve probably also seen him with his two daughters in tow, teaching them early that brigade life means everyone chips in 🧹❤️

👨‍🚒 Get to know Nathan

What made you join Pakenham Fire Brigade?
Pakenham was my closest brigade after transferring from Devon Meadows.

How long have you been part of CFA?
15 years operational with CFA

Favourite takeaway in Pakenham
Sec 13.
Butter chicken, saffron rice with garlic naan 👌🏼

Advice for someone thinking of joining?
Why think? Just do it. It becomes part of who you are, and you’ll never regret it

If the brigade had a theme song?
I See Fire by Ed Sheeran 🔥

Three words to describe you?
Passionate
Driven
Committed

Why is volunteering important to you?
It gives me purpose, responsibility, and the opportunity to contribute to something bigger than myself.
There’s nothing quite like standing beside people willing to drop everything to help others. That sense of mateship and community is hard to describe, but once you experience it, it stays with you for life.
