In 2025, the Palmerston Volunteer Unit continued to provide reliable and professional support to the Territory through a range of operational and preparedness activities.

Throughout the year, volunteers responded to multiple Requests for Assistance, delivering support during storm events, flooding and other incidents. A significant operational focus was Cyclone Fina, with members supporting preparedness, response and recovery activities before, during and following the system.

Maintaining operational capability remained a priority. Volunteers participated in regular training activities to strengthen skills, ensure readiness and support safe and effective operations.

The unit also recognised key milestones and strengthened internal connections through several social and recognition events, including the Orange Tie Dinner, the NT Emergency Service 50 Year Anniversary Ceremony, and the unit Christmas party.

The Palmerston Volunteer Unit thanks its volunteers, their families and supporters for their ongoing commitment throughout 2025. The unit remains focused on continued readiness and community service in 2026.

🎄Merry Christmas!

As we wrap up another big year, we’d like to take a moment to say thank you to our incredible volunteers, their families, our emergency service partners and the Palmerston community for your ongoing support throughout 2025.

It’s been a busy year of training, call-outs, community events and teamwork and none of it would be possible without the dedication of our volunteers and the understanding of the families who support them behind the scenes.

To everyone in our community, we wish you a safe and happy Christmas. Please take care on the roads, look out for one another and remember that our volunteers are on call over the festive period if you need us.

From all of us at the Palmerston Volunteer Unit, Merry Christmas and we look forward to continuing to serve our community in 2026 ❤️

🌳 Building Skills for the Storm Season

Over the weekend, NT Emergency Service and NT Fire and Rescue Service volunteers completed a chainsaw training course, building the skills and confidence needed to safely support the community when needed.

The course covered safe operation, maintenance, hazard identification and practical cutting techniques, giving members hands-on experience.

A big thank you to the trainers and assessors for their time and expertise, and well done to all the volunteers who took part and successfully completed the course.

🎄 The Christmas Party Darwin 2025!

Yesterday, our NT Emergency Service staff and volunteers from the Palmerston Volunteer Unit had a great time supporting the Special Children’s Christmas Party at the Darwin Convention Centre.

It was a joyful day filled with colour, music and plenty of Christmas cheer, and it was lovely to see so many kids and families enjoying themselves. The volunteers and staff were proud to be there, helping create a safe and welcoming environment and supporting the community.

A big thank you to everyone involved, and to the organisers who make this special event happen each year. We hope all the children and their families had a truly magical day.

🎄 Palmerston Volunteer Unit Christmas Catch Up!

Last night, NT Emergency Service volunteers from the Palmerston Volunteer Unit came together for a Christmas function, providing an opportunity to connect socially and reflect on the unit’s achievements throughout 2025.

Volunteers enjoyed a delicious roast dinner, plenty of laughs and some fun party games, including a Unit “Who Am I”, trivia hosted by Vicki and Dale, and a fashion parade showcasing both the best (and worst 😄) dressed on the night.

It was a fantastic evening filled with good food, great company and plenty of laughs. It was a well-deserved celebration of an incredible year for our unit.

Thank you to the PVU Association for funding the event, everyone who came along and everyone who helped make the night such a success. 🎅✨

Welcome to the family!

Over the weekend, the Darwin Volunteer Unit delivered a combined Darwin and Palmerston induction for our newest NT Emergency Service (NTES) volunteers.

New recruits came together to learn the foundations of being an NTES volunteer to understand our role in the community, safety expectations, training pathways and what it really means to turn up when others need help.

It was great to see such strong engagement, enthusiasm and commitment from everyone involved. These new members are now on their journey toward becoming operational volunteers and supporting communities across the Top End.

A big thank you to the trainers and volunteers who dedicated their weekend to making the induction a success and a warm welcome to our newest volunteers.

We’re proud to have you on the team! 🧡

🌳 Request for Assistance - Coomalie Creek

Late last night, NT Emergency Service volunteers from the Palmerston Volunteer Unit responded to a request for assistance after a large tree fell across the Stuart Highway, blocking traffic in both directions.

We deployed two chainsaw operators and a support member for this tasking.

Upon our arrival, members of the public had already cleared most of the roadway reopening the highway to traffic. Volunteers cleared the remaining debris to make it safer, before returning to the unit.

Thanks to the team for responding to this request for assistance.

👷‍♂️ International Volunteer Day 2025!

Today, on International Volunteer Day, we recognise and celebrate the incredible volunteers who selflessly give their time, skills and energy to support our community.

At the Palmerston Volunteer Unit, our volunteers come from all walks of life, but share one thing in common, a commitment to helping others when it matters most. Whether responding to storms and floods, supporting emergency operations, or engaging with the community at local events, our volunteers are always ready to step up.

We are proud of the dedication, professionalism and teamwork shown by our members, and grateful for the countless hours volunteered each year to keep our community safe.

To our volunteers, past and present, thank you for the difference you make every day.
