Aboriginal Housing Office

Aboriginal Housing Office The Aboriginal Housing Office (AHO) is a statutory body established under the Aboriginal Housing Act Does not respect the privacy of others.

The AHO develops strategies and programs that are effective, sustainable, and above all focus on Aboriginal tenants. Our aim is to break the cycle of disadvantage for Aboriginal social housing tenants by delivering fit for purpose, client focused services in places where they are needed, when they are needed. AHO Social Media Community Guidelines

Social media is a powerful tool that allows the A

boriginal Housing Office (AHO) to connect with the diverse NSW communities we support – in an immediate, familiar, and accessible way. When done well, social media builds meaningful connections, enhances trust, mitigates misinformation, changes behaviour and forms communities. The AHO encourages comments and posts on our social media channels. We welcome discussion but comments should be respectful of others. AHO social channels are moderated from Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm. Comments will be hidden, blocked and/or deleted that:

Do not treat other users with respect and courtesy and behave in an appropriate way for a civil online forum. Contain material that is racist, offensive, threatening, harassing, defamatory, discriminatory, fraudulent, infringing or unlawful. Contain material that is misleading, erroneous or disparaging of the actions and decisions of others. Contain material that is deliberately disruptive (i.e., trolling)

Include commercial or advertising material. Include any material or encourage any conduct that would constitute a criminal offence or give rise to civil liability. If you breach these guidelines the AHO can, at our sole discretion:

Hide or delete any material you have posted. Suspend or permanently block you from using the AHO’s social media channels. Report your conduct to the owner of the relevant social media platform and/or to any appropriate law enforcement authorities. Take any other action considered to be appropriate, as required. Any public comment that shares personal information i.e. address will be hidden/deleted. It is more appropriate to share this information via DM.

Today the AHO remembers the strength and determination of Eddie Mabo, whose long fight for justice marked a turning point in Australia's recognition of native title rights for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.βœŠπŸΎπŸ–€πŸ’›β€οΈπŸ’™πŸ€πŸ’šπŸ–€

Thanks to Eddie and the many other activists who fought alongside him, organisations such as the AHO can continue giving back to Mob, creating stronger communities, greater opportunities and a future built on self-determination, culture, Country and community. 🌿🏑✨

Today is National Sorry Day, a day for us to remember the Stolen Generations, when Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children were taken away from their families, communities and culture under past government policies.

Today, we acknowledge the pain and trauma this caused our people and the impact that is still felt by many families and communities today.

We also recognise the strength of Stolen Generations Survivors and the importance of supporting our people, keeping culture strong and making sure these stories are never forgotten.

Great to see 7NEWS Central West visiting the women at Wellington Correctional Centre who are building modular homes for the AHO. 🏠 We'll be sending these to Menindee in the state's far west. Our people in remote areas get the quality housing they deserve, and the women acquire valuable new skills and qualifications that will set them up for life outside. We call that a double win. πŸ†πŸ†

The AHO will be at the Clarence Valley Close the Gap Day in Grafton on Bundjalung Country this Wednesday.

Come and have a yarn with us about your housing needs, Services Our Way (SOW), home ownership and other opportunities.

CLARENCE VALLEY CLOSE THE GAP DAY 2026

This event brings together community organisations, schools, government organisations and community members to learn from one another and how we as a community can lead the way in closing the gap!

This year we have been transferring the reigns over to Ready.quit.solid who will be lead in any future close the gap events.

We have secured some amazing local talent to perform at the event including Marc Daley and Sam Dyball.

Plans are now rolling in. We can’t wait to see the next couple weeks go by and see the new team host a brilliant close the gap day.

Community organisations, non-profits and service providers are invited to express their interest in being part of this year’s event.

We are seeking organisations who would like to host an information or engagement stall on Wednesday 13th May 2026, helping us connect with the community and share valuable services, programs and support.

If your organisation would like to be involved, please complete the Expression of Interest form via the link below. πŸ‘‡πŸΌ

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are advised this post contains the name of a deceased person.

Over the weekend, sad news came through to the Aboriginal Housing Office (AHO) regarding the passing of Ann Weldon AM.

Aunty Ann contributed greatly to improving the lives of Aboriginal people, and housing was a significant part of her lifelong legacy – alongside broader leadership in community development and a long list of vital services.

Her legacy will continue through her family. Yvonne, you are an AHO Board Member, but more importantly, a daughter. You and all your family are in our thoughts.

Rest in power, Aunty Ann.
