Celebrating culture, renewal and connection!

CMRC invites our community to come together for a meaningful afternoon of art, reflection and connection as we honour Nowruz, the Persian New Year.

Through creative expression, we celebrate the rich traditions and enduring beauty of Iranian culture while creating a space to share stories, remember our heritage, and reflect on the spirit of renewal and hope that Nowruz brings.

Even in challenging times, moments like these remind us of the strength found in community, culture and connection.

Amplifying the voices of women across our communities!

It is important on International Women’s Day, we reflect on the strength, resilience and leadership of women across Western Sydney — and the importance of building trust, listening deeply, and creating spaces where every voice matters.

We live in uncertain times. Trust and consistency is our north star.

With more than 3 million people calling Greater Western Sydney home, our communities are diverse, vibrant and full of lived experiences that must help shape the future of our region.

Yesterday, alongside our partners, CMRC reaffirmed our commitment to ensuring that the voices of diverse women are heard, respected and represented. Together, we pledge to continue advocating for cultural safety, gender equity and inclusive policies that support women and families across our communities.

We believe that lived experience must have a seat at the table. When women’s voices are included in shaping decisions, stronger and more compassionate communities emerge.

Together, we continue working towards a future where every woman feels heard, valued and supported.

For over 30 years, Community Migrant Resource Centre (CMRC) has proudly supported refugee and migrant families settling across the many suburbs of Cumberland. Today, through ten satellite community hubs, we continue to walk alongside new citizens as they build safe, connected and thriving lives in Western Sydney.

Last week, CMRC stood alongside NSW Police and Commander of Cumberland PAC, Simon Glasser, advocating for the reinstatement of the PACER Project — an important initiative that places psychologists alongside police during critical call-outs to support people experiencing mental health crises.

Programs like PACER demonstrate how collaboration between community services and law enforcement can create safer, more compassionate responses for our community.

We call on Investment in Western Sydney to be meaningful and proportionate. With over 250,000 residents living in Cumberland, many in high-density communities, meaningful and proportionate investment in Western Sydney is essential. Our community deserves the same level of support, safety and opportunity to thrive as any other part of our city.

Together, we build stronger communities. 🤝

Celebrating Strength, Leadership and Change!

Last night, our community came together to celebrate International Women’s Day, in collaboration with Freedom for Humanity. It was an evening filled with powerful stories, meaningful conversations, and a shared commitment to creating a future where every woman and girl can live with dignity, safety and opportunity.

We were honoured to stand alongside incredible leaders, advocates, and community members who continue to champion equality and justice.

We heard an empowering talk from a survivor who was recognised as the Freedom for Humanity Survivor Scholarship recipient, celebrating the courage, resilience and determination of women who are rebuilding their futures and inspiring change.

While we celebrate the achievements of women, we are also reminded that many women and girls around the world still face exploitation and injustice. Conversations like these help shine a light on hidden issues and strengthen our collective commitment to supporting those who need it most.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to such a meaningful evening. Together, through partnership, compassion and action, we continue working towards safer, stronger communities for all.

When women are supported, communities thrive.

CMRC are grateful to Dr Hugh McDermott MP, Parliamentary Secretary to the Attorney General, for acknowledging at the NSW State Parliament CMRC’s ongoing support to the Sri Lankan diaspora across Cumberland.

Dr Hugh spoke warmly of joining our annual Pongal Festival in January at the Parramatta Town Hall.

Culture and connection sits within our daily lives in Western Sydney, at every school, every cafe and workplace. You will be greeted by the warmest smile once you open the doors to any cultural enquiry, large or small. Let’s keep alive those conversations!

Congratulations again to CMRC CEO Melissa Monteiro and our Capacity Building and Engagement Services Specialist Conscila Emilianus, who help create spaces for Sri Lankan Tamil cultural exchange year in and year out.

We are honoured to receive a Certificate and Letter of Appreciation from Dr Hugh McDermott MP, recognising CMRC’s ongoing work supporting the Sri Lankan Tamil community and celebrating cultural connection across Western Sydney.

Little smiles. Big beginnings.

Our 0–2 Playgroup is back for another year, and the joy in the room says it all. Mums and bubs came together to connect, sing, create and play, building precious moments that strengthen bonds and nurture early development.

We’re proud to have Cindy facilitating the program under the Parent Child Mother Goose model, designed to strengthen parent-child attachment, build early literacy skills, boost parent confidence and reduce isolation.

When families feel supported, children thrive.

Programs like this remind us that supporting families early lays the foundation for brighter futures.

Thank you to Community Hubs Australia and Parramatta West Public School for partnering with us to create safe, welcoming spaces where families can grow together.

Connecting, learning and empowering communities together.

Our Top Ryde Office recently had the pleasure of presenting at TAFE NSW Meadowbank, engaging with students from Farsi, Korean and Chinese community backgrounds who are building their futures here in Australia.

During the session, we shared information about CMRC services and delivered an important presentation on Scam Awareness, helping students recognise common scams, protect themselves, and know where to seek support when needed.

It was inspiring to connect with such a diverse and enthusiastic group of learners, all working towards new opportunities and brighter futures.

A big thank you to the TAFE team for welcoming us, and a special thank you to our dedicated CMRC staff whose passion and commitment continue to empower and support our multicultural communities every day.
