Do you still believe Council approvals backlogs are driving up housing prices? Or immigrants? Both great stories pushed by wealthy interests. The beneficiaries are investors using capital gains tax discounts.

And which investors? Mum and dads? Probably, but they are very wealthy mums and dads. The graph below shows how rich you have to be to benefit from the Capital Gains Tax discounts.

Finding 5.3 of the Senate Inquiry says "While there are a number of factors that influence housing markets, there is evidence that the concessions provided by the capital gains tax discount, in combination with negative gearing, have skewed the ownership of housing away from owner-occupiers and towards investors."

Share with your friends and colleagues, complain to your MPs, write to your local media. Capital Gains Tax discounts and negative gearing have to go.
