Do we test Harley-Davidsons to see if they’re too loud? Yes, we do.

We had 59 comments about Harleys on our recent noisy vehicle inspection post.

We wanted to assure everyone that we definitely include them when we select vehicles for noise compliance testing.

Noise standards apply broadly to motor vehicles, including motorcycles, motor cars, buses and lorries.

Noise levels are determined under Australian Design Rules - ADR and ADR83/00.

Dirt on the road isn’t just messy - in some cases, it’s illegal.

We recently fined waste management company Benedict Recycling Pty Ltd after trucks leaving its southwest Sydney facility tracked dirt and sediment offsite, creating dust and water pollution issues.

The incident breached the conditions of the facility’s Environment Protection Licence and could have been prevented if pollution controls, such as wheel washing equipment, were adequately maintained and operating properly.

It might not seem like a big deal, but it can be. When harmful dirt and sediment from waste facilities enter stormwater drains, the material can be washed into local waterways and cause harm to vulnerable aquatic ecosystems.

Does this product look familiar?

Plastic plates, cutlery and other single-use plastic items have been banned in NSW since November 2022, but sometimes they still appear on shelves.

We recently found banned cutlery, bowls and plates being supplied by Vita-Pack and required them to be removed from sale by 15 June 2026.

If you spot banned single-use plastic items while shopping, let us know. Community reports help us identify non-compliant products and ensure businesses are following the rules.

Together, we're helping keep unnecessary plastic out of our environment.

What do hand-crafted video effects look like? Yes, that means no AI.

Our in-house filmmaker created plastic bag jellyfish and foam sharks. He dangled soy sauce fish on wires to create this magical, tragic ocean dreamscape.

All in the name of reducing plastic and protecting the health of our oceans and waterways.

We wanted to share this with you on World Ocean Day, which asks us to reimagine our relationship with the ocean - from how we use plastics, to how we dispose of waste.

More than 200 trucks catch fire every year in NSW, posing a serious danger to the environment and other drivers.

This is preventable.

That’s why we regularly inspect dangerous goods transport vehicles, most recently in Moree and Western Sydney, alongside NSW Police Force and the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator.

Dangerous goods include substances that pose serious risks to people, property and the environment if not transported correctly.

We remind all dangerous goods transporters to comply with road transport laws to help keep drivers, communities and the environment safe.

Orange you glad for the upgrade? (We couldn’t resist)

The Ophir Road Resource Recovery Centre has a brand-new drop-off system, making it safer, faster and better for recycling.

Those using the facility will now drop off waste at ground level, removing the need to unload from elevated areas.

👉 No more unloading from heights

👉 Quicker drop-offs

👉 More materials recovered instead of going to landfill

The EPA is proud to have contributed around $120,000 towards the upgrade.
