This morning Paynesville Fire Brigade, Captain Josh Jongebloed, Community Safety Coordinator Cam Watts, and Fire Equipment Maintenance Officer Gary Boote attended the official opening of the new Paynesville Maritime Precinct facility.
It was a great opportunity to represent the Brigade and support this exciting new addition to our local community.
Congratulations to everyone involved in bringing the new facility to life. We look forward to seeing the precinct continue to grow and benefit the Paynesville community.

🔥 BURN-OFF REMINDER 🔥

A reminder to the community that a private contractor burn-off will be continuing today.

📅 Day 2 – Tuesday 1 September
⏰ Commencing approximately 9:00am, dependant of the dampness of the ground.

Please be aware that CFA have no involvement in this burn-off.

Residents in the surrounding area may notice smoke throughout the day. Please don’t call 000 unless you believe the fire is uncontrolled or poses a threat to life or property.

🔥 COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENT – CONTROLLED BURN-OFF 🔥

Please be advised that a controlled burn-off will be taking place on Birrells Road, Newlands Arm. THIS BURN OFF IS BEING UNDERTAKEN BY A PRIVATE CONTRACTOR.

Residents and motorists in the area may notice smoke and increased fire activity while the burn is underway.

This is a planned and controlled burn, with appropriate precautions in place. Please avoid entering the area unless necessary and take care when driving near the smoke.

We ask residents to keep an eye on conditions and remain alert, as smoke may be visible from surrounding areas.

🔥 Getting ready for the fire season! 🔥

This week, our crews refreshed their basic firefighting skills in preparation for the upcoming fire season.

The focus was on the fundamentals — bowling and rolling hose, delivering water effectively, and retrieving water for firefighting operations.

Crews also practised tackling grass and scrub fires from the deck of our appliance. As part of this training, everyone completed their annual burnover refresher, reinforcing the importance of crew safety and making sure everyone gets home safely.

While we take our preparation seriously, we need you to do the same. Now is the time to get your property fire ready:

🌿 Clean up your yard and remove unnecessary fuel.
✂️ Keep lawns short and clear of dry, flammable vegetation.
🏠 Clean out gutters and remove debris from your roof.
🔥 Have a bushfire plan — and make sure you have options if your first plan becomes unavailable.

Preparation can make all the difference when a fire threatens.

🔥 Cross-Brigade Training! 🚒

On Monday night, Paynesville Fire Brigade had the opportunity to train alongside our friends at Bairnsdale Fire Brigade.

Cross-brigade training gives our crews valuable experience working together, becoming familiar with each other’s operations, and getting hands-on with equipment we may encounter at incidents.

By training together and making the most of these opportunities, we can build stronger working relationships and respond more efficiently and effectively when our community needs us most.

A massive thank you to Bairnsdale Fire Brigade for inviting us along! 🙌

🚒 What would happen if Newlands Arm became isolated during a major emergency?

It's a question we can't afford to ignore.

Newlands Arm, Banksia Peninsula and Wattle Point all face unique challenges. With only one road in and out of these communities, a bushfire or other major incident could quickly cut off access, leaving local crews to protect their community until help can arrive.

Right now, we need more local volunteers to strengthen our response capability.
