🚨 June 1 is Smoke Alarm Action Day! 🚨

It only takes a minute to check your smoke alarms — and that minute could save your life.

✅ Test your smoke alarms by pressing the test button and listening for the beep.

✅ Keep them clean by gently removing any dust or cobwebs that may affect their performance.

✅ Replace batteries annually (unless your alarm has a sealed 10-year battery).

✅ Replace smoke alarms every 10 years to ensure they continue to provide reliable protection.

Smoke alarms are one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect your family and home from fire. Taking a few moments today to check yours could make all the difference.

💧 What happens when reticulated mains water isn’t available?

While our tankers carry their own water supplies, some appliances have more limited capacity — meaning crews may need to source water directly in the field. This can include dams, creeks, rivers, lakes, or other large water sources.

So how do we access that water?

🚒 Draughting!

Draughting allows our pumps to quickly draw water from natural water sources for use at isolated fires or to refill appliance tanks.

All of our firefighting vehicles are capable of both supplying and drawing water when required. Monday night, crews spent the evening brushing up on draughting operations with our pumper.

Training like this helps maintain crew readiness and ensures we can operate our appliances to their full capability when the community needs us most. 💪🔥

🚒 This week is National Volunteer Week, and it’s the perfect opportunity to say thank you to the incredible volunteers who give so much to protect our community. ❤️

At the Paynesville Fire Brigade, we are proudly run by 100% volunteers. Our members dedicate countless hours to training, responding to emergencies, and supporting not only our local community, but communities far beyond.

Our volunteers aren’t sitting around waiting for the pager to go off — they’re parents, workers, business owners, students, and community members who juggle everyday life while still making time to help others when it matters most.

For us, it’s a small price to pay to support CFA’s mission of protecting lives and property. 🔥

Whether you want to become an operational firefighter or help behind the scenes in a support role, there has never been a better time to get involved.

Today we pause to remember and honour the courage, sacrifice, and spirit of all those who have served and continue to serve our country.

On this ANZAC Day, we reflect on the bravery of the men and women who gave so much for the freedoms we enjoy today. Their legacy lives on in the values of mateship, resilience, and selflessness.

We will remember them.

Lest we forget. 🌺

On behalf of the Paynesville Fire Brigade, we would like to extend our sincere appreciation to everyone involved in making last Sunday’s Fashion Show at the Bairnsdale RSL such a fantastic success.

Together, we raised an incredible $6,601.29 – an outstanding result that will go a long way in supporting our brigade to build a new Fire Station.

A very special thank you to Rosemary and her helpers for their dedication and hard work in organising the event – your effort and commitment made the day possible. To all the models who gave their time and energy, thank you for putting on such a great show.

We would also like to give a big shout out to the Bairnsdale RSL for hosting and supporting the event, and to everyone who attended, donated, and contributed behind the scenes.

Your support truly makes a difference, and we are grateful to be part of such a generous community.

Thank you again to everyone involved!🚒

Last night, brigades from the Mitchell Group came together in Wy Yung for a large-scale training exercise 🚒🔥, hosted by Mount Taylor Fire Brigade.

Using the Wy Yung Pub as the scenario 🏢, crews responded to a simulated complex structure fire—providing valuable, hands-on experience in a challenging environment.

The exercise gave members the chance to step into roles they may not usually perform on the fireground 👩‍🚒👨‍🚒, building confidence, capability, and teamwork 🤝. It was also a fantastic opportunity for smaller brigades to gain exposure to structural firefighting scenarios they don’t often encounter.

Training alongside neighbouring brigades strengthens our ability to work seamlessly together when it matters most 💪, helping build strong relationships and effective coordination during real emergencies.

A big thank you to Mount Taylor Fire Brigade 👏 for delivering a well-run and highly beneficial exercise for all involved.

Training Exercise – Wy Yung Pub Tonight 🚒

Members of the brigade and neighbouring brigades will be conducting a scheduled training exercise at the Wy Yung Pub tonight.

Please do not be alarmed if you see multiple fire trucks, emergency vehicles, and personnel in the area. This is only a training scenario designed to help our crews maintain skills, improve response capability, and ensure we are ready for real incidents!

We appreciate the community’s understanding and support while we carry out this important training 🔥
