What’s news? 📰

A dead tree is not a dead loss! 🐦‍⬛
We like to keep some of our dead and declining trees because they are a valuable food source and habitat.
They enrich the biodiversity of urban ecosystems with a range of insects, fungi and microorganisms, and provide shelter for cockatoo, reptile and small native animals.

On the domesticated animal front, leashed dogs and their owners are encouraged to attend the 11th annual Fur Run this Sunday at Macfaull Park in Spearwood. 🐕‍🦺
Come for the 1km fur run, the pooch parade and the plain old-fashioned fun.

What’s news? 📰

Celebrated Nyungar artist Sharyn Egan has called Cockburn home for more than 33 years.
As the 21st inductee in our Quintessentially Cockburn series, the well-known West Australian reflects on her 69 years, what home means to her and how her art intersects with the vital role of truth-telling in reconciliation and healing for the Stolen Generations. ❤️🖤💛

While the Fremantle Dockers AFLW team may have lost their first home game at Cockburn ARC Oval, their eyes are firmly set on Sunday’s round 2 match against Collingwood in Victoria.
Their next Cockburn home game is set down for 30 August at 3:05pm. Cockburn will also host the team’s round 5 and 6 games on 13 and 19 September. Go Freo! 💜🧡💜

It's World Photography Day 📸

We don't really need a reason to show-off our stunning coastline, but how good is this shot of the Tamala limestone cliffs at Henderson and the Mt Brown walk trail 👌

Join in the spirit of the day and share a favourite photo of your own (they won't feature anywhere other than in the comment section of this post)!

What can a City of Cockburn grant help you achieve? For local sculptor Melanie Maclou Melsculpture, it's helped bring her large-scale artwork Ocean Dancer: Crimson Allure to life at the 2026 SWELL Sculpture Festival and deliver a talk for our community about her experience.

Melanie creates bold, organic sculptures from materials including aluminium, steel and concrete, inspired by the natural world.

“I am so grateful to the City of Cockburn!” says Melanie, who is passionate about helping others discover the possibilities of creativity.

If you have an idea that could benefit our community, bring people together, support local creativity or make a positive difference, there may be funding available to help make it happen.

The next round of community grants is now open. To find out more and apply, visit https://ow.ly/Tae850Zziav
