The Governor represented His Majesty King Charles III at the funeral of Sir William Heseltine GCB GCVO AC QSO, who served as Private Secretary to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Sir William, who died in September aged 96, was Queen Elizabeth II’s fifth Private Secretary, serving from 1986 to 1990 after two decades in the Palace as Press Secretary, Assistant and Deputy Private Secretary.

Austin Appelbee, who swam four kilometres through rough seas to save the lives of his mother, brother and sister, has been awarded the Royal Humane Society of Australasia’s highest national honour, the Clarke Gold Medal.

The teenager was among eight courageous West Australians honoured at Government House for acts of extraordinary bravery and selflessness.

Remembering those who gave their lives in the line of duty and recognising those who continue to serve, National Police Remembrance Day was marked at the WA Police Academy in Joondalup.

The Governor and Mrs Dawson joined police officers, families and dignitaries for the ceremony, including the laying of the first wreath at the Memorial Wall.
