Petrol prices are through the roof and politicians are blaming the oil companies again.
But they never mention the one group making far more money from every litre you buy.

The government.

At $2.30 per litre, the federal government takes about 74 cents in tax — 52.6c in fuel excise and about 21c in GST.
Meanwhile the average fuel retailer makes around 5–10 cents per litre.

So who is really profiting from your commute?

The government.

Fuel excise is sold as a “road tax”, but it doesn’t even go directly to roads. It disappears into the government’s general tax bucket where it gets spent on politicians’ wages, bureaucracy and first-class flights.

They claim to care about the cost of living and rising fuel prices.

But there’s one simple solution that would fix both:

ABOLISH FUEL EXCISE.

The Libertarian Party believes Australians should give less to government and keep more of what they earn.

We would abolish fuel excise and stop using motorists as a convenient tax target.

The Cook Labor Government celebrates 24,544 new home approvals. They credit $6.3B in initiatives like planning reforms and incentives.

This "surge" is gaslighting. Government regs, strict zoning, red/green tape, endless approvals caused the shortage in the first place. RBA estimates zoning alone inflates WA house prices 42-54% above costs. They limit supply, drive up costs, then "fix" it with subsidies and overrides... while patting themselves on the back.

~8.6 approvals per 1,000 people. Still low amid gov-fuelled population boom. In 2015 approvals were at ~9.45 per 1,000 people. Nationally, approvals remain below needed levels for affordability.

True libertarian solution: Slash regs, end zoning monopolies, let free markets build fast and affordable. No more gov-created crises "solved" with your taxes.

Gov claims victory but you're still paying the price.

Join WA Libertarian Party, deregulate, liberate housing.

Medical decisions should never be made under threat of losing your livelihood.

During COVID, thousands of Australians were told they had a “choice” - take a medical procedure, or lose their job.

Let's not kid our selves or fall for sophistry, it was coercive pressure applied by the government.

Every person should be free to make their own healthcare decisions in consultation with their doctor, without pressure from politicians or bureaucrats.

A free society respects bodily autonomy.
It does not punish people for exercising it.

If officers who were dismissed for refusing the COVID vaccine are now being allowed to return, that is a step toward correcting an injustice, and the Libertarian Party hopes that the wider police force will witness these officers integrity and attempt to emulate it.

The Libertarian Party believes medical decisions belong to individuals, not the government.

Free speech is the foundation of a free society.

New Hate Speech laws allow government politicians to ban mean words, effectively silencing opposing views such as - "A woman is an adult human female."

Right now, Australia has no explicit constitutional protection for free speech - just an implied right to political communication - which has proven to be as effective as a sausage in a sword fight.

Senator Ralph Babet has now introduced legislation that would trigger a referendum, allowing Australians to vote on whether free speech should be protected in our Constitution!

Most Australians believe that we have the right to free speech, or at the very least, believe that we should have the right to free speech.

Free speech is bigger than any one politician or party, which is why we at the Libertarian Party WA will support Senator Babet in his quest to enshrine free speech in the Australian constitution.

If you believe free speech should be protected, sign the petition below.

Hey Queensland residents!

This post is for 16-28 year olds.

Let’s be real for a second: Are you tired of being part of a generation that's constantly "protected" by people who don't actually understand the technology or the world we live in?

Whether it’s the performative nonsense of the under-16 social media ban- which any tech-literate person knows is virtually unenforceable- or the bureaucratic absurdity of authorities shutting down an 11-year-old’s ice water stand in a 40-degree heatwave... the "nanny state" is officially overstepping.

If you’ve noticed that government "solutions" (like the current va**ng regulations) often create more chaos than they solve, you might already be a Libertarian without even knowing it.

What is a Libertarian, exactly?

In a practical sense, it’s the belief that you are the best person to run your own life. It’s about personal autonomy and voluntary cooperation. We believe you should have the freedom to innovate, work, and make your own choices, provided you aren't infringing on anyone else's rights. It’s about common sense and keeping the government out of your business and your private life.

Calling The Next Generation of Thinkers

We know there’s a massive gap between the "official" rules and the reality of life on the ground. We’re looking for Young Libertarian Leaders (18–25) who have the critical thinking skills to challenge the status quo and help us build a future that actually respects individual liberty.

If you’re ready to stop putting up with ineffective, "one-size-fits-all" legislation and start leading a movement based on freedom and logic, we want to hear from you. Feel free to also call Connie from the Libertarian Party Australia 0403 838 399

Gun ownership is not about fear. It’s about responsibility.

In a free society, rights don’t disappear because a government agency fails to do its job. Law-abiding citizens should never be treated as suspects by default.

The core principle is simple:

Individuals are accountable for their actions.
Criminals are responsible for crimes.
Responsible Australians should not be punished for someone else’s wrongdoing.

Public safety and personal liberty are not opposites. A fair system recognises the difference between lawful ownership and criminal misuse.

The Libertarian Party stands for clear laws, due process and equal treatment under them.

Freedom works best when responsibility is respected.

Labor Can’t Keep Blaming the Past — They’re Adding to the Debt Right Now

Treasurer Jim Chalmers keeps claiming he “inherited the debt.”

That excuse is wearing thin.

According to figures published by the Australian Office of Financial Management, Commonwealth debt has increased by around 9% in the past year alone.

That’s not inheritance.
That’s acceleration.

Under Albanese and Chalmers:

• 💰 Australia is racing toward $1 trillion in federal debt
• 📈 Debt is growing faster than at any point outside crisis periods
• 🏦 Interest repayments are exploding — billions diverted from services to service past borrowing
• 🔥 Inflation surged, forcing interest rate hikes that hammered mortgage holders
• 🌏 Penny Wong expands foreign aid and funding offshore programs while Australians face a housing crisis
• ✈️ Record migration without matching housing supply or infrastructure
• ⚡ Bowen’s energy interventions distorting markets and driving higher power costs
• 📉 GDP per capita falling — Australians going backwards in real terms

Labor’s answer to every problem is more spending, more borrowing, more central control.

But debt is not free.
Every dollar borrowed today is a future tax.
Every deficit entrenched is a burden on our children and grandchildren.

Contrast that with sensible fiscal management:

Libertarians believe in:
• ⚖️ Balanced budgets as the norm — not the exception
• ✂️ Cutting waste before raising taxes
• 🏛️ Smaller, disciplined government
• 📊 Structural surpluses in good times to prepare for downturns
• 💡 Free markets driving productivity and real wage growth

Australia was effectively debt-free in 2007/08. Fiscal discipline is possible — but only with political will.

It’s time to stop accepting excuses and start demanding responsible government.
