On 8 August 2026, the Consulate General of Malaysia in Perth, together with ASEAN Consulates in Perth, hosted the ASEAN Day Reception and ASEAN - Western Australia Business Dialogue 2026.

The event brought together members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of the Western Australian Government, the business community and other stakeholders to commemorate ASEAN’s 59th anniversary, promote greater awareness and understanding of ASEAN, strengthen connections with Western Australia, and advance cooperation under the ASEAN–Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

We were honoured to welcome Ms Sook Yee Lai MLA as Guest of Honour and Convenor of the Parliamentary Friends of ASEAN, an important parliamentary link supporting broader engagement between ASEAN and Western Australia.

A key feature of the programme was the ASEAN–Western Australia Business Dialogue, which highlighted, among others, the strong economic links and opportunities between Western Australia and ASEAN, the WA Government’s trade and investment presence in key ASEAN markets, and how regional trade agreements such as AANZFTA, RCEP and the CPTPP can help WA businesses explore opportunities across the region. The panel brought together Ms Simone Spencer, Deputy Director General of the Department of Energy and Economic Diversification; Mr Terrence Cheong, Chair of the ASEAN Business Alliance; and Mr Michael Carter of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Western Australia, with Ms Agata Dharma, President of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce Western Australia, serving as moderator.

The celebration also featured an ASEAN medley performance showcasing dances from Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, and Thailand. 🇲🇾🇮🇩🇵🇭🇻🇳🇹🇭

We extend our sincere appreciation to the ASEAN Consulates in Perth, as well as all guests, partners and participants who contributed to the success of this year’s ASEAN Day celebration and Business Dialogue. May this event further strengthen connections between ASEAN and Western Australia and contribute to a more connected, resilient and prosperous region.

Happy ASEAN Day! 🌏✨
