No Picking of Wildflowers please!
Since 1935, under the Native Flora Protection Act, it is prohibited by law to pick wildflowers and remove any natural material from the bushland. Whether it is wood, soil or flora it is against the law and a punishable offence with hefty fines by the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions.
With some dismay we have come across someone who has removed a dozen or so Lomandra flower heads this season within the bushland. Picking them can lead to their decline. That is now several plants that will not go to seed, and precious insects that will miss their food source.
The Friends group and Coolbinia Primary School children have spent valuable time taking care of this precious bushland to preserve what is so special and unique for everyone to enjoy, and for the future generations to come. This won’t happen if someone keeps removing. Please leave them intact for everyone to enjoy.

Our Planting Week with Coolbinia Primary School has been super successful! All 440 plants are now in the ground, ready for the winter rains.

We have planted out 6 species:
-Eucalyptus marginata (Jarrah tree)
-Banksia attenuata (Candlestick Banksia)
-Hypocalymma robustum (Swan River Myrtle)
-Anigozanthos manglesii (Red & Green Kangaroo Paw)
-Acacia pulchella (Prickly Moses)
-Conostylis aculeata (Prickly Conostylis)

We'd like to give a big thanks to all the wonderful CPS staff and students for their commitment, enthusiasm and support. This morning our dedicated Friends volunteers finished planting out the last of the trees. Fantastic job everyone 👏👏👏

As National Volunteer Week draws to a close, we pay gratitude to our wonderful volunteers. We had two celebrations this week. On Thursday we held a morning tea in the Coolbinia Primary School staff room to thank staff for the extra time they give to caring for the Bushland, for supporting the annual tree planting and other Bushland activities. We also explained how our "Planting Week" will work. Then on Saturday, after a 2 hour busy-bee where we prepped 440 holes for planting trees, we enjoyed a delicious morning tea for our Friends volunteers.
A huge thanks to our special guests, teacher Mr Ian Wilson who helped us with the busy bee, and Mr Frank Paolino MLA, who helped present Certificates of Appreciation to our volunteers and delivered a heartfelt speech about the importance of the work we do.
These events were possible thanks to a grant from Volunteering WA and Lotterywest.

‘TIS THE SEASON TO BE PLANTING💪🌳
It’s a great time to start getting those new native plants into your garden. The soil is still warm, and the rain is now coming which is perfectly suited to getting those young plants in and getting their roots down.
If you’re keen, why not try the newly opened WA Wildflower Society Nursery in Madeley! Knowledgeable volunteers are there to help with choosing the right plants for your soil. WA Wildflower Society members are entitled to a discount too. Enjoy!
Check out the link in comments for directions and pricing 😎.
