Today marks the start of Family and Foster carers week (6-12th April) with an announcement from state government!
Thank you to all foster families for your contribution and commitment to children and young people across WA 😊
Today we’re kicking off Foster and Family Carers Week with a record investment in the people who help build safe and inclusive communities across WA.
The Cook Government is delivering a $31.8 million boost to support our incredible foster and family carers like David and Jenna Thompson as part of the 2026–27 State Budget.
✅ $23.7 million to increase subsidies helping ease cost-of-living pressures
✅ Expanded statewide support services, including in regional WA
✅ Continued investment to grow our carer community
We’re also rolling out new tools like ‘Who Pays in WA’ to help carers navigate available supports.
This builds on initiatives like the Adventure Pass, helping families save on some of WA’s best attractions.
As someone who grew up in a foster family, I know firsthand the difference these carers make.
If you’ve ever thought about becoming a foster or family carer, now is the time.
