This is not the end of the conversation.

We will publish forward guidance on the topics we expect to investigate and continue engaging about current and emerging challenges across the public sector.

That matters because better public administration depends not only on oversight, but also on informed engagement and practical guidance.

We want to support senior managers navigating uncertainty and to focus on issues with wide or deep impact in our community.

We are currently seeking applications for the 2026-2027 Clerkship program from high calibre law students. The program will be offered during the summer university vacation for a period of four weeks.

Students undertaking the clerkship will be exposed to a full range of the activities of the office of the Ombudsman through research and hands-on participation in the functions of the office and will be mentored by senior members of staff.

The Ombudsman also undertakes the role of the Energy and Water Ombudsman and is the Charitable Trusts Commissioner.

One of our Investigating Officers, Amy, is out the front of Fitzroy IGA this morning, taking complaints about State Government Departments and local government and speaking more to what we do.

Amy has been in the Kimberley this week assisting the community at the Department of Justice WA's Aboriginal Justice Open Days, along with Consumer Protection WA and free legal advice from Consumer Credit Legal Service WA Inc., Street Law Centre WA Inc and Welfare Rights & Advocacy Service WA.

Earlier this week our team presented at the City of Mandurah's Speaker Spotlight, talking directly with community members, organisations and support services about how we can help with complaints in the Peel Region.

Together with Consumer Protection WA, Australian Financial Complaints Authority, Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman, NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission, Health and Disability Services Complaints Office (HaDSCO) and Equal Opportunity Commission WA, our team also went to the Peel Development Commission.

Meeting with team members of the Peel Development Commission, CEOs, Brett Hill Deputy Chair of the Winjan Aboriginal Corporation, and staff members of community organisations, they were able to better understand the needs of the organisations attending and discuss how we can assist.

This outreach is part of the Ombudsman’s ongoing Regional Awareness and Accessibility Program. It’s important our staff hear directly from people in regional and communities about the problems they have with government services and energy and water providers, and raise awareness of our services for all Western Australians.

This week our staff are in Newman, East Pilbara, talking with local community members and organisations about how we can help with complaints.

Working together with the First Nations Foundation at the Financial Wellbeing Outreach along with the Australian Financial Complaints Authority, the team are answering questions and having a yarn about any matters with government services and energy and water providers.

The team also met with the Shire of East Pilbara, Department of Communities, Kanyirninpa Jukurrpa Rangers, and other local community organisations to discuss the range of work the Ombudsman does and how we can assist.
