Lord Mayor's Distress Relief Fund

Lord Mayor's Distress Relief Fund The perpetual fund is a registered charitable body and has approval of the Australian Taxation Office for tax deductibility of contributions.

The LMDRF was established in conjunction with the State Government to provide financial assistance to individuals for the alleviation and relief of distress, suffering and personal hardships, brought about by disaster or emergency within WA. The Lord Mayor's Distress Relief Fund was established in 1961 to provide relief of personal hardship and distress arising from natural disasters occurring wit

hin Western Australia. Over the years the fund has assisted with relief appeals for many natural disasters, including the Dwellingup Fires in 2007, the Toodyay Fire Appeal in 2010, and in two appeals in 2011 for the Gascoyne and Mid-West Floods and the Perth Hills Fire and the Parkerville Fire Appeal in 2014.

Fixtures and Contents, and Vehicle Applications relating to the Kimberley Floods will close on 30 November 2024.

The Kimberley Floods, a 1-in-100 year event, resulted in the worst recorded flooding in Western Australia's history, with the Fitzroy River experiencing the fastest flow rate of any river in Australia and its territories.

In response, the Kimberley Floods Appeal, managed by the LMDRF, was launched on 30 November 2023, raising an impressive $12.02 million.

To date, $7.3 million of these funds have been distributed across the affected areas, providing crucial support to more than 200 individuals.

The Mariginiup Bushfire Appeal raised a total of $713,146 since it was first activated on 27 November 2023.

$400,000 was allocated to 16 impacted individuals for major damage to their homes.

As recommended by the City of Wanneroo recovery team, the remaining $313,146 was distributed to 48 recipients to assist with other home structures and commercial properties.

In response to the devastating 2023 floods in the Kimberley, the Lord Mayor’s Distress relief fund allocated $2.35m toward vehicle replacement and repairs.

We’re so pleased to meet Rosemary, who flew to Perth just to pick up her new car and drive it all the way back home to the Kimberley!

In response to the 2023 devastating floods in the Kimberley, the Lord Mayor’s Distress relief fund has allocated $2.35m toward vehicle replacement and repairs.

We’re so pleased to see the first two replacement cars have arrived in Fitzroy Crossing this week, with a third on its way! The remaining 12 applicants are yet to choose their vehicles.

The LMDRF Board has approved 15 applications for vehicle replacements and 2 applications for vehicle repairs (up to $630,000) and approved the first 3 applications for fixtures and contents (up to $45,000).
