Scouting isn’t just about what you give — it’s about what you gain.
At Canning, our youth and adult volunteers have accessed FREE, formally recognised training thanks to funding from City of Canning grants, Dr Jags MLA, Scouts WA, and our Group.
In the past 2 years, this has included:
✅ Provide First Aid (20+)
✅ Bronze Medallion (1)
✅ Canoeing qualifications (2)
✅ RST & Power Boat Handling (2+)
✅ Cert IV in Coordination of Volunteer Programs (1)
✅ Wilderness First Aid (2)
All of this fully funded for participants (except for Wilderness First Aid which was partially funded) and on top of the standard training provided by Scouts WA to all trained leaders.
Plus incredible experiences like Jamborees, OneCamp and Sea Trek.
Real skills. Real qualifications. Real experiences.
That’s the power of volunteering in Scouting.

Our Scouts got their hiking km up last weekend with a two-night hike from Camel Farm to Ball Creek then back to the Perth Hills Discovery Centre to finish.
It was a great weekend - cold but sunny, with plenty of fun and laughs along the way.

Last weekend Sea Trekkers descended on Pelican Point for pre-camp. Not put off by the weather - and including an emergency boat rescue - our three Venturers and one Rover spent the weekend getting to know their crews for Shark Bay. Not many photos - too busy learning by doing. Activities including RST practice, ‘cooking school, meal planning and prep. We were relieved that our tents stood up to Saturday night’s crazy weather but decided not to risk the Sunday night weather. Better weather on Monday saw RST candidates complete practical assessments and some crews complete capsize drills and swim tests. Thanks to Barb and the rest of the boating team. Bring on Shark Bay!
