Australiaโ€™s top cyclists and para-cyclists will come together to compete for the coveted green-and-gold national championship jersey against a backdrop of urban bushland, city views, and Kings Park's iconic Honour Avenues.

Bold Park will host the Time Trial on Wednesday 7th and Thursday 8th January, with the race for the Kings Park crown taking place on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th January.

This event will involve major road closures both within and around the parks, and we encourage anyone travelling in the area to visit the AusCycling road closure webpage. Pedestrians and cyclists will still be able to access the parks.

Happy International Volunteer Day! ๐Ÿ™Œ

Today and every day we recognise and appreciate all the work done by volunteers across Kings Park and Botanic Garden and Bold Park.

Did you know that last financial year, we had over 440 volunteers, contributing over 31,000 hours of service? ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

To celebrate their efforts, on Tuesday we hosted a Christmas party for our extraordinary volunteers, with a 'White Diamond' theme in honour of the commemorative plant released earlier this year for the 60th anniversary of the WA Botanic Garden.

Congratulations to our volunteers who celebrated milestone years of service, including 10, 15, 20, 25 and some even reaching 30 years of service!

BGPA would like to thank all the volunteers who dedicate their time and energy towards making Kings Park and Bold Park such great places to be. ๐ŸŒฑ We couldn't do it without you!

This year's wet winter in Perth (Boorloo) has meant an explosion of w**ds, not just in home gardens, but in urban bushlands too! ๐ŸŒฟ

Invasive w**ds like Perennial veldt grass (Ehrharta calycina) are a major threat to these urban bushlands. They outcompete native species, reduce species diversity in remanent bushland, and can potentially fuel intense bushfires in urban environments.

At Kings Park Science, our fire ecology team is tackling this problem head-on. By studying how w**ds, native vegetation, and fire interact, we aim to inform effective management strategies that support the return of native flora and stop w**ds from taking over again.

Every spring at Bold Park, researchers survey plots where different fire and w**d control treatments are being trialed. Researchers are seeing clear evidence that successful w**d management after fire (top) improves native plant diversity and reduces fire risk compared to leaving w**ds unmanaged (bottom).

This decade-long project is about more than w**ds; itโ€™s about safeguarding native biodiversity and making our urban bushlands more resilient as climate change brings more extreme weather events.
