When you purchase a Gomexus handle assembly ALWAYS dismantle and 'service' it before using it.

You need to lubricate the bearings and apply loctite to the retaining screw before taking it out fishing.

I place a small amount of 'sticky' lithium grease on the bearing faces to help try and resist water contact.

On this TLD handle I use a corrosion inhibiting grease on the threads joining the handle k**b together. This prevents the 2 parts from seizing together, making it easy to separate in the future when the reel is serviced.

This Sol had water inside the clutch housing.
The magseal oil was intact, but the water entered under the plastic plate that sits under the magnet assembly.

I placed a bead of grease around the joining surfaces to try to resist water entry in the future.

Water was also between the magnet and the plastic plate, but there is a seal there which stopped water from going any further.

More parts means more areas for water to get in.

Its easy enough to tell that the bearing is rooted before it gets to this point of explosion.

Lots of people just ignore it and wait for total failure before they do anything about it.

This is far too common.Keep your TD Blacks away from 'lots of water'.They just dont handle it too well.
