Palmerston Association Palmerston Association provides support and counselling services to individuals and families in WA that are facing issues with alcohol and drug use.

Serving the community for 40 years, Palmerston provides an important service that supports individuals and families in Western Australia that are facing issues with alcohol and drug use. Palmerston operate from a number of locations offering free counselling to families and individuals with offices in Perth, Fremantle, Rockingham, Mandurah, Thornlie, Albany and Katanning. Palmerston also provide s

ervices in Denmark, Mt Barker, Walpole and other outlying towns. Palmerston operate a Therapeutic Community (TC) 35kms south of Perth. Palmerston Farm offers a residential rehabilitation program designed for people wishing to address their substance use issues. The 10 acre semi-rural property is located 30 minutes south of Perth and offers 29 residential places for men and women and further transitional housing for three graduates of the program. A Therapeutic Community (TC) is a supportive residential environment where residents are encouraged to create positive changes in their lives and to develop new life and coping skills. The TC Model facilitates personal growth within a community of concerned people working together to help themselves and one another. Residents in a Therapeutic Community play a significant role in the day to day operation of the community and in supporting each other.

Today, on National Sorry Day, we pause to acknowledge the strength of the Stolen Generations Survivors and reflect on the continued journey toward healing and reconciliation.

We recognise the deep pain and trauma caused by past government policies and the ongoing impact these have on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, families, and communities.

At Palmerston, we understand the importance of listening deeply, walking respectfully alongside First Nations people, and continuing to build relationships grounded in trust, respect and connection.

We are reminded of the words often shared by Uncle Charlie Kickett — that we have two ears and one mouth for a reason. Listening to lived experience, culture and community is where understanding begins.

Today, and every day, we remain committed to creating culturally safe spaces where people feel seen, heard and valued.

🌿 We’re hiring: Diversion Officer | Part-Time in Mandurah

Palmerston Association is seeking a Diversion Officer to assess and support individuals appearing before the court who are experiencing alcohol and other drug-related issues. You’ll conduct assessments, facilitate referrals into eligible diversion programs, and build strong working relationships with key court stakeholders, including magistrates, legal professionals, and Community Justice Services.

What we’re looking for:
- Relevant tertiary qualification (or equivalent) in social, behavioural or health sciences
- Strong assessment and counselling skills
- Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team
- Knowledge of AOD issues and co-occurring conditions
- Clear written and verbal communication skills

It was a wonderful celebration of community, culture and connection, alongside the launch of the new GP service supporting culturally safe healthcare for the Armadale community.

National Volunteer Week is a time to recognise the incredible people who give their time, compassion and energy to strengthen our communities. 💚

Last night Palmerston was proud to sponsor the Albany Regional Volunteer Service Awards Evening, celebrating the volunteers making a meaningful difference across the Great Southern.

Palmerston staff member Ian Magor shared insights from our Homelessness Outreach Program delivered in partnership with Pioneer Health. He highlighted the incredible volunteers at Breakfast in the Park who provide connection, compassion and a hot meal in the town square twice a week for the community. 🥪☕️

In just nine months, the outreach service has delivered more than 400 interventions, engaged with more than 130 people experiencing homelessness or housing instability, and supported 8 people into stable housing.

Congratulations to all award recipients, nominees and volunteers recognised this week 👏

A smile can change everything. 😁🦷🪥

As part of our new community hub, George Davies House, Palmerston is proud to partner with Uniting Smiles Charity, Western Australian charity dedicated to giving vulnerable West Aussies a reason to smile.

Together, we have created dedicated dental clinic, providing essential dental care to people experiencing disadvantage and who may have limited or no other options for treatment.

For many people facing complex challenges, access to dental care can be out of reach. Left untreated, poor oral health can affect confidence, mental health, employment and overall wellbeing.

By integrating dental services within Palmerston’s Community Hub, clients can access oral health care alongside alcohol and other drug support, medical care, legal assistance and other wraparound services—all in one welcoming location.

This partnership is about more than dentistry. It is about restoring confidence, improving health and creating brighter futures.

We thank Uniting Smiles for their compassion, dedication and shared commitment to making quality dental care accessible to those who need it most. We also acknowledge the financial contribution from Lotterywest towards the fit out of the dental clinic.
