Yesterday, I attended a National Reconciliation Week Breakfast Watch Party with a small, but dedicated and enthusiastic group at the One World Centre. The breakfast was streamed live from Optus Stadium with a number of speakers, videos, and interviews. The highlight was the impassioned Keynote Address by Whadjuk Noongar journalist and newsreader Narelda Jacobs. You can watch the broadcast on demand on SBS here https://www.sbs.com.au/ondemand/tv-program/reconciliation-wa-breakfast-2026/2499055683684
Narelda's speech begins at the 59-minute mark. You will need to create an SBS on Demand account (it's free) or sign in to your existing account. It's also worth watching the Reconciliation Choir performing Midnight Oil's 'Beds are Burning' at the 1 hour 36 minute mark. Members of the public can join this choir every year (if you're quick enough). I might even consider it next year! Let me know if you'd like to join me. 🎶

Wonderful afternoon yesterday sharing a combined celebration of our amazing volunteers. 👏👏👏

This week, 18th - 24th May, is National Volunteer Week. National Volunteer Week is Australia's largest annual celebration of volunteering, with thousands of events and activities held across the country. We are very excited to have received a Volunteer Week Grant to hold our own event - a wellness session and afternoon tea to thank the wonderful volunteers in our local community.
We are looking forward to meeting with our grant partners, One World Centre, Alternatives to Violence Project WA, and Oxfam Group Fair Trade shop WA this weekend to celebrate.

Proud to be sharing a day of celebrating volunteers with these groups.

This week is National Volunteer Week and we celebrate Soroptimist’s like us!

The theme is “Your Year to Volunteer” and encourages people to get involved and make a difference.

2026 is the United Nations International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development (IVY 2026), highlighting the vital role of volunteers in advancing sustainability. National Volunteer Week 2026 will support IVY 2026 by amplifying the voices of volunteers and taking action to help volunteering thrive.

Make this Your Year to Volunteer and help create lasting, positive change. If you think you can, please email Jane at [email protected]. You can attend a few meetings to see what we are like before joining.
