Good luck to the Matildas as they take the field tonight! ⚽

At ChemCentre, we’re proud to be cheering them on with a little help from our friends at Pawsey Supercomputing Research Centre who kindly shared their iconic quokka mascots to help spread the Matildas spirit across our team today.

It’s a great reminder that strong collaborations, whether in science, research, or sport, bring people together and create moments we can all get behind.

From everyone at ChemCentre, we’re cheering you on tonight - go Matildas! 💚💛

Harmony Week is an opportunity for all Western Australians to celebrate our State’s rich cultural, religious and linguistic diversity, and to reflect on the importance of inclusion, respect and belonging.

In Western Australia, Harmony Week celebrations are held from 15–20 March, recognising the importance of celebrating diversity, while also acknowledging the need to challenge racism, remove barriers to inclusion, and promote fairness and equity.

Harmony Week aligns with ChemCentre’s ongoing commitment to respect, fairness and inclusion, and serves as a reminder that each of us plays a role in creating a workplace where people feel safe, valued and supported to contribute their skills, perspectives and experiences.

🎉 Congratulations to the recipients of the 2025 Ian Ritchie Staff Awards! 🎉

ChemCentre is excited to recognise the outstanding achievements of our staff who go above and beyond in their work, demonstrating excellence, integrity, innovation and collaboration across our organisation.

This year, we were proud to host the awards ceremony with CEO Paul Nicholls and Board Chair Tress Walmsley, and we were honoured to have Professor Sharath Sriram, Chief Scientist of Western Australia, join us to congratulate our award winners and finalists and take official photos with them on the day.

🥇 Ian Ritchie Early Career Award – Dr Catherine Rawlinson

Recognised for her exceptional technical expertise, professionalism and positive contribution to forensic toxicology. Catherine is admired for her collaborative approach, resilience and support of colleagues — a true ambassador of One ChemCentre.

🥇 Ian Ritchie Achievement Award – Dr John Moursounidis

John, Manager of Research & Innovation, is celebrated for his leadership and role in advancing research projects in waste reuse and the circular economy, while helping expand ChemCentre’s capability and partnerships across industry and government.

Today marks the start of 16 Days in WA.

Running from 25 November to 10 December, the campaign raises awareness and encourages action to end violence against women.

The 2025 theme, “Stopping Family and Domestic Violence: Play Your Part”, highlights the responsibility we all share in creating safer communities.

At ChemCentre, we stand together to say:

✨ Violence against anyone is unacceptable
✨ Everyone has the right to live and work free from violence and harassment
✨ Everyone can make a difference.

This is not only a women’s issue, but also a whole-of-community responsibility.

Each of us can play a role by promoting respect, support and safety for all, to help build a safer Western Australia.

R U OK? Any Day
At ChemCentre, we know that life has its ups and downs, and sometimes the most powerful support starts with a simple question: “R U OK?”

Today, we spent the day reminding everyone that a simple “R U OK?” can open the door to meaningful conversations, help someone feel less alone, and even save a life.

R U OK? Day is a national reminder to check in with those around us, start a conversation about mental health, and show we care. This year’s message is clear: every day is the right day to ask.

You don’t need to wait for a special day…regularly reaching out to friends, family, and colleagues can make all the difference. The conversation doesn’t need to be perfect; it just needs to come from a place of care.

🌟 As National Science Week wraps up, we’re still celebrating the incredible work our teams have achieved this year!

From cracking forensic cases 🚓🐎, tackling environmental challenges 🌏, and advancing battery and mining innovation ⚡⛏, to responding to hazmat emergencies across WA 🚨 — our scientists are making a difference every single day.

Here’s just a snapshot of what we’ve done:

🔬 Partnered on major projects tackling food waste, battery innovation, and the future of mining.

🕵️ Analysed 5,700+ drug seizures, 7,300+ traffic stops, 3,200+ coronial cases, and 8,800+ racing samples.

🌏 Processed 6,000+ jobs in environmental testing, medicinal product analysis, and soil/mining research with CSIRO.

⚠️ Attended 25+ hazmat emergencies statewide – deploying in under 20 minutes.

💡 Want to see the science in action?

🔬 Celebrating National Science Week

At ChemCentre, we live and breathe science every day—delivering forensic and scientific services that protect communities, support innovation, and ensure a safer, more sustainable Western Australia.
In the last financial year:

• Our Scientific Services Division analysed over 850,000 samples – from environmental testing to agricultural and industrial analysis.

• Our Forensic Department processed more than 130,000 samples, supporting justice, safety, and fair competition in racing.

This year’s National Science Week theme—“Decoding the Universe: Exploring the unknown with nature’s hidden language”—reminds us that science is key to understanding and shaping the world around us.

We’ll be showcasing our work at the Resources Technology Showcase Perth, 17–19 August. Visit Booth 27 to meet our experts and discover the science behind what we do.

ChemCentre was excited to be part of the recent RACI Careers Night at UWA!

Nearly 80 Early Career Chemists came through the doors, and we loved chatting all things science, careers, and the work we do at ChemCentre. 🙌

Our CEO, Paul Nicholls, gave a quick talk about the exciting pathways available at ChemCentre and how we deliver trusted, applied science across WA. 🔬🌱

A huge shoutout to our amazing scientists Varshini (Forensic Toxicology) and Ibrahim (Organic Chemistry), who were there answering questions and sharing insights into life as a scientist.

Thanks to The Royal Australian Chemical Institute WA Early career Chemist Group for hosting such a brilliant evening — it's always a pleasure connecting with the next generation of chemists! 👏

👋 We had the pleasure of bumping into Lisa O'Malley MLA at the ConASTA 72: Eyes to the Future conference yesterday!

Lisa gave a warm welcome to science teachers from all over Australia (and beyond!) as they kicked off four days of inspiration and innovation in science education.

Organised by the incredible team at Science Teachers' Association of WA - STAWA, this event celebrates the teachers, specialists, and lab techs who make science come alive in classrooms every day. 🌟

If you're attending, keep an eye out for the ChemCentre superheroes 🦸‍♀️🧪—we’ll be there all week sharing what we offer through our outreach and education programs. Come say hi!

NAIDOC Week 2025: The Next Generation – Strength, Vision & Legacy

This year marks 50 years of NAIDOC – a powerful celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, resilience, and leadership.

At ChemCentre, we proudly recognise NAIDOC Week and this year’s theme: “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy.”

It’s a time to reflect on the incredible legacy of First Nations peoples, celebrate the strength of young Indigenous leaders rising today, and acknowledge the shared vision for a future grounded in self-determination and respect.

Together, we look ahead with hope and commitment to walking forward in partnership, recognising that the next 50 years will be shaped by the strength of community and the vision of the next generation.
