“It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible” President George Washington

Australians share common core values, which whilst not unique to Australia, are expressed in our own unique way. Drawing on colloquialisms, our values include such things as being ‘fair dinkum’, and the value of a ‘fair go for all’. Our society’s values are based on our Judeo-Christian heritage, which are ultimately outlined within the Bible. We are unapologetic about basing our policies, and core values upon this, our heritage. So, what are these core values? Honesty and Integrity: (being ‘fair dinkum’)...

We strongly support the Government’s legislation to close loopholes in WA’s Working with Children Check system. The reforms will help ensure that a person who loses their clearance in another state cannot simply obtain a new one in WA. But as Maryka Groenewald MLC for Western Australia rightly pointed out, it has taken way too long for WA to act, while almost every other state had already moved to pass similar reforms.

Australian Christians believes protecting children is one of Parliament’s most important duties. When known gaps exist in systems designed to keep children safe, governments must act urgently, not wait until the final months of the year to begin debate. We will keep pushing for strong, practical safeguards that put children first.

Miracle in name, miracle in action. Makarita Miracle Tanuvasa is believed to be Australia’s youngest-ever premature baby to survive. Born at just 21 weeks and three days, weighing only 351 grams, she is also believed to be the smallest baby ever born in Queensland.

Her story is a powerful reminder of what modern neonatal medicine can do. Medical technology is improving every day, making it possible to care for babies outside the womb at stages of pregnancy that would once have made survival impossible. We can save these babies. We have the capability. What we need, as a society, is the will to protect every precious life.

Maryka Groenewald MLC for Western Australia recently recognised the remarkable work of Shanthibhavan Palliative Hospital in Parliament. Known as the “house of peace”, this 49-bed, no-bill hospital provides free, whole-of-person care to seriously ill and vulnerable patients, while also supporting their families with practical, emotional and spiritual care.

The hospital is sustained largely by local families, nuns and community support, with mobile care and free early-detection screening reaching rural communities. It is a powerful example of what compassionate, community-based palliative care can look like, and a reminder that care should never be limited to treating an illness alone.

Support for foster carers must be a top priority. The safe, stable homes foster carers provide to vulnerable children are indispensable, yet WA continues to face a shortage of available carers while thousands of children need out-of-home care. Foster carers are asked to do far more than provide food and shelter. They welcome children who may be facing trauma, uncertainty and enormous disruption into their homes and families.

Australian Christians believes foster carers deserve practical, ongoing support that reflects the vital work they do. If we want more safe homes for children, we must be realistic about what we ask of foster families and ensure they have the financial, emotional and professional support to keep going.

Standing up for what is right pays off. For three years, Queensland child and adolescent psychiatrist Dr Jillian Spencer faced suspension and disciplinary action after publicly raising concerns about puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones for minors. She refused to back down, challenging the approach being taken by the Queensland Children’s Gender Service and calling for a more cautious, evidence-based model of care.

Now Dr Spencer has been vindicated. Children’s Health Queensland has discontinued all disciplinary proceedings against her, and she is free to continue practising as a psychiatrist. While the confidential settlement ends her employment with Queensland Children’s Hospital, it is an important reminder that courageous people who speak up for vulnerable children should not be silenced. Australian Christians will always stand with those willing to fight for what is right.

This answer on puberty blocker monitoring does not stack up. Maryka Groenewald MLC for Western Australia had previously asked the Health Minister whether children receiving puberty blockers in WA undergo regular bone density monitoring. The Health Minister said that they do, with baseline assessment before treatment and regular scans during treatment.

But when Maryka checked the Gender Diversity Service Standards of Care, she could find a requirement for an initial assessment, not a clear requirement for ongoing bone density monitoring over time.

When she asked why this was missing, the Government’s response did not resolve the contradiction. Australian Christians will keep demanding transparent, evidence-based safeguards for children receiving these serious medical interventions.

Out in the community with Bob, one of our wonderful volunteers explained exactly why he puts Australian Christians first. This Secret Harbour by-election is not like any other. It is a barometer for what is to come, as more voters lose trust in the major parties and choose to put their values and priorities first.

That is the choice before Secret Harbour voters. Send a clear message that life, faith, family and freedom come first. Put your values at the top of your ballot and vote 1 Australian Christians.
