Araluen Botanic Park

Araluen Botanic Park Established 1930 | Perth Hills
Discover the breathtaking, timeless beauty, nature, heritage, and gardens for all seasons. Autumn Tulip planting & flowers.

WA’s best Rose Collection, world-class Camellias. Romantic picnic lawns, blooming colour & charm. The picturesque landscape is situated in the Perth hills with a north-south valley aspect. Each year, through August and September, we host our renowned Tulip Festival, seeing thousands of smiling faces taking in the stunning beauty of our park. Throughout the rest of the year, we host many captivatin

g activities for all ages, so there is always something to find at Araluen. Araluen has enjoyed international acclaim for our gardens and particular species, including Camellias and Roses. In 2012, Araluen was recognised by the International Camellia Society, joining just 29 other gardens around the world in their Camellia Gardens of Excellence program. Similarly, Araluen’s Heritage Tea Roses drew acclaim through the highly respected US Rosa Mundi magazine. The 2008 Spring/Summer edition referred to Araluen as ‘…one of the finest collections of Tea Roses in the world…’ Araluen continues the planting traditions established by our founder, Boss Simons, by expanding the camellia and rhododendrons collections, as well as adding to the eucalyptus with Karri, Tuart, and by increasing the Jarrah trees which had been logged heavily in the valley during the early 1900s.

IF A MAN INVITES YOU TO ARALUEN BOTANIC PARK — HE’S THINKING LONG TERM.

While you’re admiring the flowers blooming this autumn season — have you ever stopped to think about what it actually means if a man invites you to a botanic park for a first date?

Anyone can plan a loud dinner or another rushed night in the city. Choosing Araluen Botanic Park says something different.

Psychologists say shared positive experiences help people form stronger emotional connections. Walking through autumn gardens together, slowing down, noticing beauty at the same time, and sharing quiet moments side by side creates the kind of memories people actually carry with them.

The best first dates don’t feel performative.
They feel peaceful, effortless, and memorable.

WHY DO LEAVES CHANGE COLOUR IN AUTUMN?

What you’re seeing isn’t just colour — it’s a process.

As the air cools, trees begin to slow down and stop producing chlorophyll — the pigment that gives leaves their green colour. As it fades, hidden tones start to appear: deep reds, warm oranges and golden yellows.

That’s why the same walk can look completely different each time you visit. You might see green, gold and crimson all in one walk. Visit this weekend and see how much has already changed at Araluen Botanic Park — just 40 minutes from the city.

THESE MAPLES ALMOST TOUCH THE GROUND.

These Japanese maples aren’t like the others. With their fine, lace-like leaves and distinctive weeping shape, some of them grow low enough to almost touch the ground — creating a completely different silhouette through the garden. As the season shifts, their rich green foliage transforms into deep tones of scarlet, bronze and orange, making this one of the most striking autumn moments at Araluen Botanic Park.

See how much they’ve changed by the time you visit — some already look completely different.

THREE THINGS YOU DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT SUNFLOWERS.

Sunflowers follow the sun, turning their heads throughout the day to capture as much light as possible. Each one can contain up to 2,000 tiny individual flowers in its centre, all forming what looks like a single bloom. And they’re not just beautiful — they’re strong and adapt to changing conditions as they grow.

🌻 If you know another interesting fact about sunflowers, share it in the comments.
