A new chapter for Aboriginal tourism in Western Australia 🌿

Tourism WA is proud to launch the Jina: Western Australian Aboriginal Tourism Action Plan 2026–2030 today, backed by a $20 million investment to support Aboriginal tourism businesses, create jobs and celebrate culture across WA.

Building on the success of the success of the 2021–2025 Jina Plan, which helped grow the number of Aboriginal tourism businesses in WA from 110 in 2019 to around 150 today, this new Jina Plan will help more visitors connect with authentic Aboriginal tourism experiences and the stories of Country throughout Western Australia.

Western Australia is set to gain another non-stop international flight, with Air New Zealand launching a new seasonal service between Christchurch and Perth.

Operating three times per week between 30 November 2026 and 7 May 2027, the seasonal service will provide thousands of additional inbound seats into Western Australia, strengthening the state’s aviation network.

In 2025, Western Australia welcomed 77,000 visitors from New Zealand – with one in three visiting family and friends. This new route will enhance WA's ties with New Zealand, and make it easier than ever for visitors to travel west.

Vale Christine Cole

Tourism WA is deeply saddened by the news of our dear colleague Christine Cole’s passing late last week.

Christine was a kind, caring, passionate individual who was much loved by those who knew her and had the privilege of working with her.

She held many roles at Tourism WA over her 25 years with the agency, and for the last 13 years was our ‘Queen of Cruise.’ Her contribution to the cruise sector cannot be overstated. She spearheaded the growth of cruise tourism, promoting Western Australia for inclusion on cruise itineraries across the globe and led the development and implementation of the 10-year WA Cruise Tourism Strategic Plan. With a vision in mind, she managed eight WA Cruise Exchanges and secured two National Cruise Conferences over the last decade, helping draw more ships, more ports of call, and grew the economic impact of cruise to $368 million.

Her passing will be greatly felt by all her friends and colleagues, not only at Tourism WA, but across the West Australian tourism industry and global cruise sector. Christine dedicated her working life to the tourism industry and was a mentor, champion and advocate to many across the industry and the broader community.

We are sending all our strength and love to Christine’s family at this very sad time. Her passion and presence will be greatly missed.
