International Button Battery Awareness Day ♻️

A button battery is a small, round, shiny object that looks like a coin and is often found in toys.

Dispose of these batteries safely by taking them to a designated battery drop-off point, and make sure to cover the terminals with tape before disposal to prevent hazards.

Smarter irrigation upgrades 💧

We recently completed hydro-zoning projects at Lilac Hill Northern Oval, Ron Jose Oval and Ballajura Oval.

The projects were supported by funding through the Gnangara Waterwise Councils Grants Program, a joint initiative between the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation and Water Corporation.

These upgrades form part of the City’s ongoing work to improve irrigation efficiency and support more waterwise public open spaces.

Swan Valley public art EOI 🎨

The City of Swan is inviting expressions of interest from artists and artist teams to be part of a unique and meaningful public artwork in the Swan Valley.

This exciting opportunity will see the creation of a significant piece celebrating the migrant women who helped shape the region’s viticultural history.

The artwork will honour their resilience, hard work and cultural contributions throughout the early to mid-1900s.

Reserved for nature 🌿

Work to maintain and restore the City’s natural areas is happening year-round, with a focus on improving the condition and resilience of local reserves.

Across the City, crews are carrying out a range of practical works including w**d control, woody w**d treatment, fencing repairs, litter removal and track maintenance.

Recent planting has seen around 17,000 seedlings established across a number of reserves.

Are you prepared for winter? 🌧️

Storms are the most common natural hazard in Australia. While they occur more frequently in winter, they can happen at any time of the year.

Severe storms can cause significant damage. Strong winds, large hail and heavy rains can pose serious risks, including flash flooding.

Just like a bushfire plan, you should also have a severe storm plan that includes:
✅ The location of your emergency kit
✅ Where you will go if you need to get to a safer place
✅ A list of outdoor items you need to secure
✅ The person responsible for turning off electricity, gas and water.
