Starick

Starick Starick is a charity supporting women and children escaping domestic and family violence. It provides support services to families, and empowers its community.

Starick is a lead independent agency working to end family and domestic violence and protect children, young people and women. Starick provides safety and protection from family and domestic violence for children, young people and women. Starick has been working in the south east metropolitan corridor of Perth since 1985 and provides:

- two refuges for women and children escaping
domestic and f

amily violence
- outreach services to women living in the
community, including women who have
recently left the refuge and are re-establishing
themselves in the community
- crisis and medium term housing
- court and legal support
- counselling
- support groups
- programs for children

As a not-for-profit organisation, Starick relies on the generosity of businesses, community groups and individuals for sponsorship, donations of money, clothing, household items and other in-kind support. This support enables us to build on the programs we provide with government funding by running special programs and activities or providing additional assistance to the women, children and young people using our services.

Starick’s CEO and management team were pleased to attend the Centre for Women's Safety and Wellbeing launch of Workforce FDV, Western Australia’s new Family and Domestic Violence Workforce Entity. The event brought together organisations from across the state committed to strengthening capability, consistency, and collaboration across WA’s FDV response system.

This launch represents an important milestone for Western Australia. Building stronger, safer responses to family and domestic violence requires shared understanding, coordinated effort, and sustained action — and Workforce FDV will play a key role in supporting that work.

Last week, we were delighted to welcome Starick donors, Board Chair and members, and staff to our Donor Appreciation Event at The Left Bank .

The evening provided an opportunity to connect, reflect, and celebrate the incredible community of supporters who stand alongside women and children experiencing family and domestic violence.

A highlight of the evening was hearing from Laura, one of our dedicated Mobile Outreach Workers, who shared the story of a client whose life was transformed through timely support and compassionate care. Her presentation offered a powerful reminder of the real impact donor generosity has on the lives of those we support every day.

Guests enjoyed drinks, delicious snacks, and meaningful conversations while learning more about the difference their contributions make.

A special thank you to The Left Bank, who generously donated the venue space, wine, and a platter for the event. Their support helped make the evening truly special.

Most importantly, thank you to every donor who attended and continues to invest in safer futures for women, children and young people in our community. We couldn't do this without you. 💜

Vale Dr Aunty Millie Penny AM

Starick Services is deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Aunty Millie Penny AM.

Aunty Millie shared a long and valued connection with Starick, including as a volunteer refuge worker and through her contribution to our Reconciliation Action Plan, for which she created the artwork that continues to guide and inspire our reconciliation journey.

A respected Elder, advocate, leader and truth-teller, Aunty Millie dedicated her life to creating positive change for Aboriginal people and communities. Her wisdom, generosity, and unwavering commitment to justice touched countless lives.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Fred, her family, friends, and community.

Thank you, Aunty Millie, for your friendship, guidance, and lasting legacy.

May your wiran rest in peace.

There are growing calls for the WA government to ban positive character evidence after three Western Power staff were stood down for offering references to a former colleague convicted of r**e.
