Starick

Starick Starick is a charity supporting women and children escaping domestic and family violence. It provides support services to families, and empowers its community.

Starick is a lead independent agency working to end family and domestic violence and protect children, young people and women. Starick provides safety and protection from family and domestic violence for children, young people and women. Starick has been working in the south east metropolitan corridor of Perth since 1985 and provides:

- two refuges for women and children escaping
domestic and f

amily violence
- outreach services to women living in the
community, including women who have
recently left the refuge and are re-establishing
themselves in the community
- crisis and medium term housing
- court and legal support
- counselling
- support groups
- programs for children

As a not-for-profit organisation, Starick relies on the generosity of businesses, community groups and individuals for sponsorship, donations of money, clothing, household items and other in-kind support. This support enables us to build on the programs we provide with government funding by running special programs and activities or providing additional assistance to the women, children and young people using our services.

This week, Starick’s Respectful Relationships Teaching Support Team partnered with our youth programs, Thriving Through Connection and Moorditj Koolangah, to co-deliver an interactive activity for Year 10–12 students at the Sevenoaks Senior College Expo.

The expo brought together a range of local services, with the shared goal of connecting students with support services available within their community.

We engaged students in conversations about gender stereotypes and the assumptions we often make, and provided a brief overview of the supports and programs we offer.

Taraneh was a resident at our refuge. We have changed her name to protect her identity.

Taraneh escaped a violent husband before being abused and mistreated by her extended family. She was deprived of food and privacy and sometimes had to sleep in the park. When Taraneh arrived at our refuge she was in very poor health.

Starick supported her by finding accommodation, advocating for her and providing emotional support, making referrals to health service providers, Centrelink and counselling.

You can read more of Taraneh's story here: https://www.starick.org.au/about/stories/taraneh/

Family and domestic violence remains a national crisis. With rising living costs and housing pressures, Starick Services’ resources can only stretch so far.

At Starick, we are proud to support women and children in the south-east metropolitan corridor as they rebuild their lives, open their first bank accounts, secure employment, and find hope again after leaving unsafe environments.

Our team works tirelessly to support those currently in our care, but the demand for Starick’s services continues to grow.

Starick cannot do this alone. Be part of the change. If you are able, please donate today - every dollar makes a difference. Because together, we are stronger.
