We are a group based around Victoria Park and South Perth dedicated to the preservation of Jirdarup Bushland Precinct (Kensington Bushland, George St Reserve and Kent St Sandpit) and the promotion of its importance in the community. Jirdarup Bushland Precinct is an area of urban bushland between Etwell Street & Baron-Hay Court in East Victoria Park and managed by the Town of Victoria Park (ToVP) f
or conservation, passive recreation and education. The Friends of Kensington Bushland group was formed in 1999 and is dedicated to the preservation of the bushland. In 2015 the ToVP created the Jirdarup Bushland Precinct, with Kensington Bushland at its heart (a 9 hectare 'Bush Forever' site), adding George Street Reserve and the Kent Street Sandpit to it in recognition that these areas function together to form an integrated area for flora and fauna. In 2020 the Friends' group rebranded to “Friends of Jirdarup Bushland” in recognition of the 2015 Council decision. Our landcare team conducts annual weeding and planting and watering activities for conservation. Our Events Coordinator organises guided “walks and talks” and other activities to share this rare natural oasis in the middle of suburbia, where people of all ages can relax and discover Western Australia’s wonderful biodiversity.
