Carers WA was proud to attend the Parliamentary Friends event in Canberra, “Carers in the Workplace: A Productivity Solution” yesterday. Carers from across Australia were present, including WA carer Faith. Also in attendance from Carers WA, Richard Newman (CEO), Linda Wayman (Board Chair), and Michael Schoch (Board Member and Carers Australia Representative).

Thank you to all the carers who shared their experiences with Members of Parliament and Senators.

Carers spoke honestly about balancing paid work with caring responsibilities, and the tough compromises they face when workplaces and systems don’t provide the flexibility and support they need. They also highlighted what makes a difference: flexible work, understanding employers, accessible supports, and inclusive policies.

These conversations matter. Supporting carers to participate in paid employment where they are able is critical, not only for their wellbeing, but for our workforce and economy.

The National Reconcilliation Week (NRW) 2026 theme "All In" is a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every single day.

It's a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

Reconciliation will not happen by itself, and it will not happen without all of us.

At Carers WA, we are committed to fostering respect, understanding, and partnerships with First Nations communities. Together, let’s create a more inclusive future. 💙

Vale Neale Daniher

Today, we honour a remarkable Australian whose courage, humility and determination have left an indelible mark on Australians.

Neale Daniher’s legacy extends far beyond the football field, through his tireless advocacy and leadership in the fight against motor neurone disease (MND).

At Carers WA, we see every day the quiet strength of carers, those who walk alongside loved ones facing complex health challenges. Neale’s journey, and the way he shared it, deeply resonated with our community. He helped Australians better understand not only the realities of MND, but also the profound role carers play, offering unwavering support, dignity and compassion through every stage.

Neale reminded us that even in life’s most difficult moments, purpose can be found in connection, advocacy and hope. His courage elevated conversations about care, community and the importance of standing together.

Our heartfelt thoughts are with Neale's wife, children and extended Daniher family. His legacy will continue to drive awareness and change for people living with MND, and for the carers who support them.
