A sold-out celebration of Macedonian culture and community! 🎬❤️

What an incredible morning at our Umbrella Macedonian Film Festival screening on Wednesday!

We were thrilled to welcome over 100 seniors and community members from Macedonian backgrounds, filling the cinema for a special morning of film, culture and connection.

Guests enjoyed morning tea, the opportunity to catch up with familiar faces and make new friends, and a wonderful film shared together on the big screen.

Seeing a sold-out cinema filled with laughter, conversation and a shared sense of cultural pride was truly special. Events like these remind us just how important it is to create opportunities for older people to celebrate their heritage, connect with their community and feel a sense of belonging. ❤️

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the morning such a success! We can't wait to continue celebrating the many cultures that make our community so special.

✨Meet Our Volunteers!✨

Introducing Hana!

For over seven years, Hana has been making a heartfelt difference with Umbrella's Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS). As a first-generation migrant from Mongolia, Hana understands the deep value of connection, community, and belonging.

Whether sharing friendly conversations, going for walks, or simply enjoying fresh air on the balcony together, Hana visits her care recipient regularly to build a lasting friendship based on trust and joy.

🎧 Music, movement and plenty of smiles at Umbrella! 🪩💃

Our Social Support Groups recently tried something a little different with a Silent Disco, and what a success it was!

With headphones on and music playing, our seniors enjoyed a fun and engaging new activity that brought plenty of smiles, laughter and opportunities to get moving. It was wonderful to see everyone embracing the experience and enjoying music in a whole new way!

A special thank you to Catherine from The Kindness Challenge, by Soul Gestures an organisation dedicated to supporting wellbeing programs in the community, for generously providing the headphones free of charge and helping make this experience possible. 💜

At Umbrella, we're always looking for new and creative ways to bring people together, encourage connection and make our Social Support Groups enjoyable and meaningful.

Last week, more than 25 Umbrella volunteers, Board members and staff enjoyed a special opportunity to attend the Romeo and Juliet community dress rehearsal at His Majesty’s Theatre.

For our multicultural volunteers and team members, it was a wonderful opportunity to experience the magic of opera, enjoy a beautiful cultural experience together and strengthen the connections that bring our community closer.

A heartfelt thank you to West Australian Opera and the City of Perth for their generosity in providing the tickets and making this memorable experience possible. 💚

Umbrella named For-Purpose (Not-for-Profit) of the Year at the 2026 Bayswater Business Awards 🏆

We are incredibly proud to announce that Umbrella Multicultural Community Care Services has been awarded For-Purpose (Not-for-Profit) of the Year at the City of Bayswater's inaugural Bayswater Business Awards, held on Saturday, 10 October 2026.

This prestigious recognition acknowledges Umbrella's ongoing commitment to supporting culturally and linguistically diverse communities and fostering inclusion, connection and wellbeing across Western Australia.

As we celebrate our 25th anniversary, this achievement holds particular significance. It reflects a quarter of a century of dedication to building a more inclusive community, where people of all cultural backgrounds feel respected, supported and valued.

This award is a testament to the collective efforts of our dedicated staff, volunteers, Board members, community partners and supporters, whose contributions continue to shape our organisation and strengthen the communities we are privileged to serve.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the City of Bayswater for this recognition and to Coventry Village, the proud sponsor of the For-Purpose (Not-for-Profit) of the Year award category, for supporting the celebration of organisations making a meaningful contribution to our community.

We also congratulate all fellow award recipients and finalists for their achievements and contributions to the local community.

Yesterday was National Pierogi Day! 🥟

Our Internet Cafe were shown the art of making pierogi dough from scratch, and then had the chance to add the fillings. Afterwards, everyone enjoyed a lovely meal together 🫶

Meet Our Volunteers!✨

Introducing Liudmyla!

After moving to Australia four years ago from Ukraine, Liudmyla was eager to continue her lifelong passion for helping others by joining Umbrella’s volunteer team.

Through the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS), Liudmyla visits a Ukrainian resident in aged care, offering warm companionship and comfort in their shared native language. Beyond her visits, she was actively involved with our Volunteer Hub; sharing her journey with new volunteers, practicing her English, and building meaningful connections across diverse cultures.
