WALGA RoadWise WALGA's RoadWise has been advising and supporting Local Governments in the road safety space for over 30 years.

WALGA's RoadWise, as the Local Government road safety program in WA, engages and supports Local Governments to adopt and apply safe system aligned policies and practices which contribute to achieving Driving Change, Road Safety Strategy for WA 2020-2030. With a team of road safety advisors, policy, and project officers, WALGA works with and supports Local Governments through:
• RoadWise Councils,

• RoadWise Recognised,
• Road safety tools and resources,
• Road safety representation, policy, and advocacy,
• Road safety information and communication, and
• Child Car Seat Safety project. WALGA would like to acknowledge the Minister responsible for road safety, the Road Safety Council, the Road Safety Commission and the State Advisory Committee. RoadWise is funded by the State Government through the Road Trauma Trust Account (speed and red light camera fines) and the State Road Funds to Local Government Agreement (sourced from WA vehicle licensing fees).

PIARC has released a new resource highlighting global best practice for improving motorcycle safety, an important focus for Local Governments, with many serious crashes occurring on the local road network.

The resource explores motorcycle protection systems and how traffic management practices can better protect this vulnerable road user group.

𝙉𝙚𝙬 𝘼𝙉𝘾𝘼𝙋 𝙎𝙖𝙛𝙚𝙩𝙮 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙩𝙤𝙘𝙤𝙡𝙨

ANCAP Safety Ratings has unveiled updated safety protocols in their latest release; What’s New from 2026?, bringing stronger, more realistic testing and clearer standards to help keep all road users safe.

Local Governments are being encouraged to explore the new protocols and use them to guide better fleet policies and community transport planning.

The Shire of Ravensthorpe are improving travel speeds for better outcomes for their community.

WALGA

The Shire of Ravensthorpe has agreed to reduce the speed limit for the main streets of Hopetoun and Ravensthorpe to 40 kilometres per hour.

The proposal came from the Hopetoun Senior Citizens Group.

Councillors voted in favour of the change at this week's council meeting.

The request will now be put to Main Roads for approval.

The Shire of Bridgetown-Greenbushes has successfully implemented an area wide 40km/h speed limit across the Greenbushes town site. A proactive move to improve safety for pedestrians and enhance liveability by creating slower, safer streets, especially with the increased presence of heavy vehicles.
