We’re pleased to see the installation of the Blue Gum Park Tennis Club’s new solar system is now complete. 🎾

The solar system will significantly reduce ongoing electricity costs for the club, freeing funds for them to spend on other programs and services.

We’re appreciative of $105,000 funding from the Australian Government for the project.

City of Melville Mayor Katy Mair, Elected Members and Chief Executive Officer Gail Bowman, Member for Tangney Sam Lim and Blue Gum Tennis Club representatives gathered on Wednesday, 10 June to celebrate the completion of the upgrades.

The project improves sustainability and energy efficiency of the club and supports our carbon reduction initiatives.

The City wishes to clarify information relating to temporary construction tape that recently appeared around works associated with the Tompkins Park Floodlighting Project.

The tape contained the wording 'Asbestos Dust'. Following investigation, the City's contractor has confirmed that no asbestos is present at this location and that neither the City nor the contractor was responsible for installing the tape.

The tape was removed as soon as the matter was brought to the City's attention.

💧 Be water wise this winter!💧

There are many ways to use water thoughtfully this winter, from June 1 to 31 August, the annual Winter Sprinkler Switch-off is in effect across Perth, Mandurah and parts of the Southwest.

💧 Why switch off?
By switching off your reticulation system this winter, you’re helping save bucketloads of water while letting winter do all the work!

Have an automatic reticulation system? Now is the time to check that it’s switched off for winter.

Together we can help to keep Western Australia waterwise – one sprinkler at a time. 💙

A powerful and thought-provoking discussion between Narelda Jacobs OAM and Aimee Ryan captivated attendees at our recent Reconciliation in Conversation event, culminating in a standing ovation with many moved to tears.

More than 220 people attended the compelling conversation between the City of Melville’s First Nations Coordinator, Aimee Ryan and West Australian icon Narelda Jacobs, in which the two delved deep into an honest and insightful exploration of identity, leadership and reconciliation.

Narelda reflected on the way in which her family and upbringing shaped her voice, her experiences navigating systematic racism and maintaining her cultural identity in the mainstream media landscape. The discussion also put a spotlight on the importance of younger generations in the advancement of reconciliation, and whether Western Australia is ready for meaningful truth-telling.

Thank you to all who joined us for a deeply moving evening that challenged perspectives and reinforced the value of open, respectful dialogue – the perfect way to close National Reconciliation Week for 2026.

We hope everyone managed to stay safe and dry this wet and wild long weekend! After the storm, it’s the way our community comes together that really stands out. Neighbours checking in, lending a hand, and looking out for one another alongside our local teams working on the ground. It’s these acts that make a big difference.

🦺 Our crews are out and about cleaning up after the storm. If you see any fallen trees in public spaces or visible damage to foreshore infrastructure, please let us know by reaching out to us on (08) 9364 0666 or [email protected].

🍃 If you need large tree debris that has fallen from City-managed trees to be picked up, please reach out to us via the details above or utilise your FOGO bin for smaller green debris.

🚨 MelSafe responded to 260 calls over the long weekend, including 69 jobs involving storm damage to trees and parks, 5 lost animals and 18 occurrences of suspicious or antisocial behaviour. MelSafe will continue to support Melville SES to keep our community safe.

💡 To the members of our community who are still experiencing power outages, we encourage you to keep up to date by visiting the Western Power outages page ➡ /www.westernpower.com.au/outages/
