Last week, on the first day of National Reconciliation Week, a group of Shenton students and staff represented the school at the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Veterans and Service Association of WA ceremony at Kings Park. Alongside their peers from the Jinjeejerdup (Mt Lawley Outreach) Follow the Dream program, our students stood alongside community members, veterans and families to pay their respects and reflect on the service and sacrifice of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander soldiers.

We then had the privilege of attending the premiere of Not Forgotten, a documentary that captures the story behind the Fallen Soldiers project our students saw to completion last year. The film, produced by Dr Glen Stasiuk from Black Russian Productions and Murdoch University (and a Shenton parent), will act as a message stick, carrying forward the truth-telling of these soldiers, the sacrifices they made for their country and the discrimination they experienced on their return.

We are incredibly proud of the leadership our students have shown in this project, and the manner in which they have honoured the memory and legacy of the soldiers whose stories they were entrusted to tell by the soldiers’ families.

We would also like to acknowledge the leadership and commitment from Shenton staff member, Sandra Down, in seeing this project through from inception to full completion.

We thank the Polly Farmer Foundation, Department of Veterans Affairs, and Kings Park and Botanic Garden for their support of this important project.

🌊 Holiday Learning in Full Sail! ⛵
During the recent school holidays, 16 enthusiastic students from Years 7–12 proudly represented Shenton College at the WA Schools and Youth Team Sailing Regatta. What a fantastic example of students choosing to stay engaged, active and connected through extra‑curricular opportunities beyond the classroom.
This was especially exciting as it marks the first time in three years that Shenton has fielded teams in inter-school sailing.
We extend our sincere thanks for hosting the event and for their generosity with time, expertise and equipment, both in the lead‑up and across the three‑day regatta.
A heartfelt thank you also goes to our amazing parent community, whose collaboration and support made this opportunity possible for our students. They have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to coordinate families and liaise with the College’s HPE Department. We are incredibly fortunate to have such strong parent support for school sport at Shenton.
With momentum building, 2027 and beyond is shaping up to be smooth sailing for students keen to learn, participate and lead in this growing sport. Well done to all involved! 👏

Our Year 11 Biology students were excited to attend the Perth Zoo yesterday. On a warm and humid day they pushed on to complete three activities led by the Perth Zoo Staff. The activities were specifically designed to enrich and extend the in-class teaching giving valuable hands-on, real-life examples and included identifying animals from motion cameras, classifying primates and observing some species management programs.
Later in the year, students will head off on camp to further the application of knowledge and skills by taking and analysing in-field measurements and observing rehabilitation.

MORE SCHOLARSHIP SUCCESS
Congratulations to three Class of 2025 graduates whose hard-work and endeavour have been recognised with scholarships to support their future studies.
Michael Hart is one of only 25 students nationally to receive a Tuckwell Scholarship, an award that will support his studies at ANU for the next 3-5 years. This distinguished scholarship is recognition of his intellect, character, leadership and commitment to Australia.
Cooper Wood has been awarded a UWA Winthrop Scholarship. Under this initiative, five scholarships are awarded each year to Year 12 high school students who demonstrate exceptional academic capabilities, can articulate their leadership vision and demonstrate community and co-curricular achievements.
Alex Fine was offered and awarded highly prestigious scholarships at several universities, including a Fogarty Scholarship, before making his final decision to study medicine at Curtin University.

We’re incredibly proud to celebrate Madeleine Tyter, Audrey Coleman and Tiana Alger, three students who have achieved exceptional outcomes in their time here at Shenton as part of the Class of 2025. As student leaders in the Follow The Dream cohort, these young leaders have been strong advocates for culturally responsive practices and processes in our learning community and have been wonderful role models for younger students. Alongside this, they have all achieved exceptional academic outcomes.

Tiana achieved an ATAR of over 96 and will be heading to UWA this year to study Environmental Science. Madeleine also achieved an ATAR of over 96 and will be going to the University of Melbourne to study Science on a Chancellor's Scholarship. Joining her at the University of Melbourne, also on a Chancellor's Scholarship after achieving an ATAR of over 91, Audrey will be studying a double major in International Relations and Creative Writing.

Congratulations to these inspiring young women, we can't wait to see the paths they forge in the world.
