We've walked every suburb. We've listened. Now we want to hear every story.

Two years ago, through the City's Local Convos initiative, we walked every suburb and listened to what mattered most to local communities.

In Balga, you told us that you wanted better lighting at Princess Wallington Reserve Dog park. Lighting upgrades were completed during the 2025/26 financial year.

In Mirrabooka, you highlighted the importance of a vibrant community hub and crime prevention. Since then, the City has completed the $1 million upgrade of Mirrabooka Town Square, delivering new seating, shade, public art and a welcoming community space. The City has also undertaken CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) assessments and committed $250,000 towards community safety improvements at Mirrabooka Town Centre, Lively Park and the Ashbury Crescent reserve. Targeted Community Patrols have also been introduced in Mirrabooka Town Centre.

In Nollamara, we heard that safer and more accessible walking routes were important. The City has continued delivering its Footpath Network Program to improve connectivity and accessibility.
In Westminster, community safety was a key priority. Since then, the City has continued to prioritise the Safer Suburbs Rebate program which is available now.

It’s Women’s Health Week, from 7 to 13 September, and we’re celebrating by offering extra fitness classes at Stirling Leisure - Balga, Inglewood and Scarborough.

This year’s theme, “Do It Anyway,” encourages women to take small, positive steps towards better health and wellbeing.

Our instructors will be adding extra sessions to the regular timetable, including strength-based classes, dance fitness and other wellbeing experiences. What better way to support your health and wellbeing than by joining a class, connecting with others and trying something new? 💪

As part of the City's Youth Focus initiative, local Peer Researchers have been working with the Youth Affairs Council of Western Australia to gather insights and better understand the experiences, needs and aspirations of young people in our community.

Now it's time for Phase Two.

From now until 11 October, young people, parents, carers, service providers and community members are invited to contribute through the Youth Focus survey. Your feedback will help inform future planning and support the wellbeing, inclusion and participation of young people across the City.

Here's a first look at the glass show court that's been set up in the middle of Karrinyup Shopping Centre for the 2026 World Squash Masters Championships!

The championships run from 30 August to 6 September, with games held at Squashworld Mirrabooka, Belmont Squash Centre and Karrinyup Shopping Centre.

Well over 1,000 competitors have travelled from 50 countries to take part. We're wishing all of them the best of luck - especially these two Perth stars, Sue Hillier (60+ No. 1 seed) and Ray Villaroya (85+ No. 1 seed).

The City of Stirling is a proud sponsor of the event, working with Squash Australia and Tourism Western Australia to bring the championships to Perth for the first time.

Please note that maintenance and renewal works will commence at the Scarborough Amphitheatre on Monday 31 August to preserve and improve this important community asset.

During the works, the seating area will be temporarily fenced off and closed to the public. The City aims to reopen the amphitheatre by mid-October, ahead of the summer season, for community events, performances and public use.

LANEY'S LOOKOUT

Trigg Beach surf lookout will be named Laney’s Lookout under a City of Stirling plan to honour the late, great Mark Lane.

A local legend, Mr Lane grew up in Woodlands, attended Churchlands Senior High School, taught at Carine Senior High School and spent a total of 22 years as the CEO of Surfing WA in Trigg.

For the next two nights, the Scarborough Clock Tower will be illuminated in oceanic colours of blue, teal and white to acknowledge the significance of Surfing WA and the surfing community.

Surfing Western Australia is hosting a paddle-out in Mr Lane's memory at Scarborough Beach from 8.00am on Saturday.

“Anyone who met Mark Lane would know that he was a special person – generous with his time, kind, caring and very capable,” City of Stirling Mayor Mark Irwin AM said.

August is Family History Month, a time to explore family stories and celebrate the people who helped shape our local community. 📖

Meet the Kennedy Family. Born on Rottnest Island (Wadjemup) in 1887, Thomas Richard Kennedy later settled in Osborne Park and Yokine with his wife, Alice, and their six children. Working as a boilermaker's assistant and volunteering with the St John Ambulance Brigade, Thomas's life reflects the dedication, hard work and community spirit of many Western Australians in the early 20th century.
