I was up in Dwellingup yesterday visiting with some local constituents and took the chance to drop into a few of my favourite businesses.

If you are looking for something to do this long, wet weekend, head up to Dwellingup and say hi to some of the great local spots that help make the town so special:

The Red Shed
Rubie’s Place
Longriders Cafe & Restaurant Dwellingup
Dwellingup General Store
Waypoints Bakery Cafe
Dwellingup Blue Wren Cafe

Tell them Dave sent you, I’m sure they would love to see you.

I was delighted to be invited to present the Youth Art Awards at this year’s Pinjarra Art Show.

It was wonderful to see so much creativity and talent on display. Congratulations to all the students and artists who took part.

The Alcoa & Pinjarra Rotary Art Exhibition and Sale is on this long weekend, open 10am–4pm Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Come down, enjoy the amazing artwork, grab a cuppa, and support a great community event.

Well done to Pinjarra Rotary, the artists, volunteers and everyone involved in bringing it together.

What a great day at the Pinjarra Festival!

Despite the forecast, the weather held off and we were treated to a beautiful day in Pinjarra. It was wonderful to see the town so busy, with families, friends and visitors out enjoying the atmosphere and everything the festival had to offer.

While the Shire of Murray had to make the difficult decision to shorten the two-day event due to the inclement forecast, it was clear people still came out in force and packed as much as they could into one great day.

A big thank you to everyone who came by to say hello, and to the Shire, community groups, volunteers and stallholders who put so much effort into making the day such a success once again.

The Pinjarra Festival is a real highlight of the local events calendar, a fantastic day of free family fun, community spirit, and showing off some of the very best our region has to offer.

Thanks to Charlie and Jeff for taking me through the vision and plans for the future Harvey Men’s Shed building project, and for showing me around the site for the new building.

It’s an exciting project and one well worth supporting. With growing membership, the Shed plays such an important role in bringing people together, supporting mental health and wellbeing, sharing skills, and strengthening community connections.

Their current home in a shed generously loaned by the Harvey Rotary Club has served them well, but it is now bursting at the seams, a clear sign of why it is so important to keep this project moving.

I look forward to seeing the project progress and the positive impact it will have for Harvey and the wider community.

Delighted to host the Exchange Hotel Pinjarra and The National Hotel management and hospitality team at Parliament House recently.
Trying to impress people who are experts in hospitality is always a challenge, but the staff at The Parliament of Western Australia put on their usual excellent show and did a fine job.
The dinner was held in support of OVIS Community Services, which provides vital family and domestic violence support services across the Peel region.
A wonderful evening for an important cause, and a pleasure to welcome and thank such a dedicated and generous team to Parliament.

Always great to see new small businesses opening in our community and creating local jobs.
If you’re in Pinjarra, make sure you check out The Little K and Co on George Street. They’re serving up great coffee, fresh juices and delicious fresh food made with love, with gluten-free and vegan options available, plus catering.
It’s another local business investing in our town and giving people more reason to stop by.
It takes courage, hard work and plenty of passion to start something new. We should be backing people who are prepared to have a go, encouraging enterprise, rewarding effort and making it easier for small businesses to grow.
Increased state and federal government taxes and fees are adding even more pressure and uncertainty for small businesses.
We should be backing those willing to take a risk, invest in their community and build something of their own, not taking the aspiration out of them.

Thank you to Andrew Tieleman, Site Director, and Bronwyn Bell, Policy & Regulatory Affairs Manager, for the detailed briefing on Albemarle Corporation Australia’s operations and the update on the Kemerton Lithium Hydroxide Plant.
The decision to idle the operating train and transition the plant into care and maintenance is a complex and challenging process, particularly for the people directly involved.
While this is clearly a difficult time, and very disappointing for everyone who has worked so hard over the years, it was encouraging to hear about the professionalism of the local team at Kemerton and their ongoing focus on supporting their people, protecting the asset, and maintaining a positive connection with local industry and the broader community.
It is also clear that downstream processing in Australia remains a complex and challenging space. There are important lessons to be learned, but also a strong case for continued focus on how Australia can build capability, resilience and long-term value in this sector.

It was great to attend the Peel Chamber of Commerce & Industry Inc. Night of Influence event alongside my Parliamentary colleagues Basil Zempilas and Hon. Michelle Boylan MLC.
Events like these provide an important opportunity to hear directly from local businesses and community leaders about what matters most to them, and to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing businesses across the region.
Thanks also to Groundswell Brew & Bottle at the Food Innovation Precinct Western Australia - FIPWA for the catering and hospitality.

Budget Estimates Week in Parliament has just wrapped up.

It was a valuable opportunity to scrutinise government spending, ask hundreds of detailed questions of Ministers about the Budget and their portfolios, and pursue answers on the issues and projects that matter to our communities.

Accountability and government transparency matters, and Estimates Week is one of the most important ways the Opposition can help ensure taxpayers’ money is being used responsibly and effectively.

Over three days, we held around 104 separate committee sessions, totalling 36 hours of hearings.

We did not always get clear or straight answers, but most of the Ministers engaged professionally and respectfully, recognising that accountability and scrutiny are essential to maintaining trust in our institutions, and of course there were one or two who didn't really want to be there.

Thanks to all the staff on both sides that worked very hard in preparing for the week, and to The Parliament of Western Australia officers and their teams who helped make it all run smoothly.

Each session was recorded and Hansard is available online, so if there’s a topic of interest, or you’re a budget or policy nerd, head to the parliamentary website. You can be the judge of who is doing their job well.

Great fun chatting with Duncan on Harvey Community Radio - 96.5fm yesterday, alongside Ben Small MP.

Always good to support local community radio and have a chance to talk about what’s happening across the region.
