Father’s Day Member’s Raffle 💚
As we did on Mother’s Day, we have a voucher to raffle off to our enrolled families. This time the $50 voucher was generously donated by Rumps & T-Bones and we greatly appreciate it! Next Sunday we will do an online draw with ALL our enrolled families names and post the winner in the group. You don’t need to buy tickets or do anything - every Dad/family in our playgroup is automatically in the draw. This is a chance for us to show you our appreciation and shower you with a little bit of love 💝

*Raffle will be completed under the enrolled name and for every family. Those who fill in the ‘father role’ in their family deserve to be celebrated and given a chance to win too.

For Week 7 we’re combining the book ‘Tiny Tradies’ with a Father’s Day theme. We’ll have a construction sensory tray, play dough, and a special craft for children to make for Dad/a parent figure. 🚜👷

Speaking of Dads are playgroup, it’s a perfect opportunity to remind all our current and future members that we are not a Mum’s Group. We do have a large number of Mums who attend playgroup so it might be easy to think that; however, we warmly welcome and encourage Dads to attend our sessions. We have a solid group of Dads who attend consistently (generally every second week due to work shift) and we love having them! If you’re a Dad and want to come along, please do!
Mums, Dads, Aunties, Uncles, Grandparents - all are welcome here ❤️

Monday was out ‘That’s Not My…’ theme, and if you think our sensory tray looks like we just raided our junk drawers at home and the art cupboard at playgroup and threw everything into a tray, then let me tell you…You are correct.
It looked messy and unplanned, but it achieved its goal. Babies through to 5 year olds loved picking up the strange bits of material and feeling the different textures. We love a simple but fun tray! ❤️

We also have some new picnic tables for our crafts and eating! Seating was one of our challenges in the new building and these foldable picnic tables are a fantastic solution! Check them out on Monday 😊

When setting up toys before the session, putting some toys outside always seems like such a great idea. We tell each other ‘it’ll be good for the kids when there are breaks in the rain’.

And then every week we’re all stuck outside because nothing is more enticing to toddlers than bad weather and the opportunity to make their parents feel miserable for a few minutes. They do not wait for breaks in the rain. If anything, they wait until it’s the windiest and wettest portion of the session and make a beeline for the door.
But we do it again the following week because if there aren’t any toys outside they’ll probably just venture out in the rain and lick a fence post or bury their shoes in the sand for fun. Toys seem like the better options.

Week 5️⃣

We’re diving into every baby’s favourite books. We couldn’t pick between ‘That’s not my puppy’, or ‘That’s not my dragon’ or ‘That’s not my unicorn’, so we decided to combine them all and go with a ‘That’s no my…’ theme to cover all bases! That way we can enjoy them all.
The babies in particular will love this week’s sensory tray as they get to explore a range of textured materials - from sponges to loofahs to feathers. 🪶

This week our activities were based off Graeme Base’s book ‘The Waterhole’. We explored a waterhole sensory tray, painted and added stripes to tigers, and our babies helped rescue animals from their tape traps. 🐅
As fun as that all sounds, it was hard to compete with the giant magnatile set we introduced at the session. It was something we were excited to order and we saved it’s debut for a rainy day. We made fences, castles, and little houses with the tiles. 🏰
So. Much. Fun.
Are they fun to cart in and out of cars for the sessions? No.
But will we keep bringing them? Absolutely yes.

We value imaginative play here and baby dolls have always been one of the most popular toys. Our old dolls had lived a long, hard life after so many years of play. They had been in sandpits, stuffed into the play trolleys, launched off the swings, dragged through the yard, force fed a variety of plastic foods, dribbled on, and so completely loved by hundreds of children. We opted to retire those poor little dolls and ordered shiny new babies, complete with a range of clothing. May these dolls be just as loved and utilised as the past ones ❤️

To help extend our imaginative play, we found the sturdiest plastic food set known to man and a large range of costumes - with this image only being a portion of them. We love seeing our children dive into imaginative worlds and games when a costume is thrown on 💭

All positions (new and current) will be officially voted on at the AGM and the 2026-2027 committee announced**

🚨To our wonderful playgroup family, we have a potentially disastrous situation and we are putting out a call for your help 🚨

At our AGM we always take nominations for committee positions and cast a vote on the nominations. This is an annual requirement for our playgroup as we need to ensure we have our executive committee roles (president, secretary, treasurer and enrolments officer) filled, plus have a handful on our general committee. We are not permitted to operate without a full executive committee confirmed - this point is important to remember as you read further. Sometimes a person serves in one role for consecutive years and these are just re-voted in at the AGM, and other times new members are nominated and accepted.
This year we have a combination of both; however, we are in the tricky spot of having an open executive role with NO nominations.
Earlier in the year we advised that both our President and Treasurer would be stepping down after serving playgroup faithful for several years, so both positions need to be filled. We are very thankful that we have one nomination for President (to be voted in officially a the AGM) but currently we do not have any nomination for the Treasurer/Enrolments. This as put us in a dire situation.

If we want playgroup to stay open, if we want a space for our children to make friends, if we want a place to build a village, and if we want to see a future for Murray Districts Playgroup, we need one of you to volunteer for the role. Please. Pretty please with the biggest cherry on top.

The website has made the role so much easier. Here is a basic list of responsibilities:
🌿Managing Playgroup bank account
🌿Payment of all invoices
🌿Ensuring all payments are recorded properly
🌿Preparing financial report on payments in/out for each meeting
🌿Checking emails for new enrolments (website does most of the enrolments process)
🌿Entering new members into PGWA portal
🌿Summarising Attendance Register into Attendance Summary

We did opt for combining the roles into one, as done in the past, since they work hand-in hand with each other, but if we have two members who would like to lessen the role we could discuss splitting it into Treasure and Enrolments again. We promise it isn’t like working a full time job. It’s flexible and you can tick off your responsibilities when it suits your family. You don’t need any specific experience or requirements as we’ll teach you what to do.

There are big advantages too. As executive committee you:
💛 Get a 50% discount on term fees
💛 Have large say in the future of playgroup
💛 Work with a team of welcoming mums
We also have group chats. We’ll be honest and admit our chats can be 10% playgroup and 90% sharing bread recipes, discussing playground locations, or arguing about whose husband snores the most (FYI it’s totally mine), but you can opt out of that chat if you find too many messages overwhelming.

The bottom line is this: if no one volunteers, you will not have a playgroup in Term 4.
Please do not work on the assumption of ‘someone else will step up’ because if they don’t, we all loose a place we love. If you think you have the capacity for the role, please nominate yourself before the AGM on September 16th. Be part of our team ❤️
