💚 IMPORTANT UPDATE FROM MURRAY TOY LIBRARY 💚

Unfortunately, due to the severe storms this week, our toy library has sustained significant damage, including the collapse of part of our ceiling.

For the safety of our members, Murray Toy Library will be closed until further notice while we assess the damage and undertake the repairs required to make the space safe and welcoming again.

As a result of the closure:

🧸 All memberships will be placed on hold for the duration of the closure.

🧸 There are to be no toy returns at this time.

🧸 All toys currently on loan will be automatically renewed, so there is no need to worry about return dates while we are closed.

Our committee is already working hard behind the scenes to clean up, assess the damage and explore options for getting the toy library operational again as quickly as possible.

When it is safe to do so, we may need assistance relocating toys and equipment. If you would be willing to lend a hand with packing, moving or setting up a new space, we would love to hear from you. Community support is what makes our toy library so special, and any help would be greatly appreciated.

We understand this news will be disappointing for many families, and we sincerely thank you for your patience, understanding and support during this unexpected setback.

We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.

Thank you for being part of our wonderful toy library community. ❤️

🌈 We can’t wait to welcome everyone back to borrow, play and return as soon as it’s safe to do so.

One of the best kept secrets in parenting? A toy library.

A place where families can borrow toys, discover new play experiences, connect with their community and support children's learning through play.

Simple, practical and full of value for growing families.

370,000 toys being shared between families across Australia is a pretty incredible thing when you stop and think about it! 💞

Every toy on a shelf is another opportunity for a child to learn through play, discover a new interest or revisit a favourite activity without families needing to constantly buy more.

And across Australia, that impact adds up:
♻️ 400 toy libraries
👨‍👩‍👧 175,000 toy library borrowers
🧒🏽 80,000 children
🙋 11,800 volunteers
🎲 370,000 toys being shared and reused

But the value of toy libraries goes beyond the toys themselves.

Toy libraries help families access practical support, reduce clutter and household costs, connect with their community and create playful home learning environments that grow with children over time.

Across Australia, toy libraries continue to bring real value to families in ways that are social, practical, environmental and deeply community-driven.

This is what toy libraries in Australia look like today.

Ever wanted to know more about volunteering Murray Toy Library ?

Come and see us tomorrow at the Lakelands Shopping Centre for the Lakelands Volunteer Expo!

The Lakelands Volunteer Expo is back for 2026!

The expo will take place during National Volunteer Week, on Friday 22 May from 10am to 2pm. This event is a fantastic opportunity for local community members to discover the groups operating within Lakelands, for local groups to recruit new volunteers and also network with other groups from the area.

By attending the event, you can also enter the competition to win* a $500 Lakelands digital gift card AND $500 donated to an organisation of your choice (amongst the organisations present at the event). All you need to do is fill in the entry form on the day!

You, as you are, are enough to make a difference. Volunteering is not about “working for free” but about finding purpose and connection. It can mean supporting a cause that matters to you, giving back to your community, or simply showing kindness and feeling valued.

Through volunteering, you can build social connections, stay active, challenge your mind, and develop new skills. It’s also a way to share your expertise, gain confidence, explore career pathways, and celebrate cultural exchange—all while making a meaningful difference.

To find out more about the importance of Volunteering in Australia, visit the Volunteering WA website.

Volunteering is what keeps toy libraries going 💞

Every borrowed toy, every organised shelf, every family welcomed through the door and every toy library session opened is made possible by volunteers.

This National Volunteer Week, we’re celebrating the people behind the toy libraries across Australia. The 11,800+ volunteers who give their time, energy and care so children and families can access places to play, connect and belong in their community.

This year’s theme, “Your year to volunteer”, is a reminder that volunteering can create connection, confidence, friendships and a real sense of belonging, not just for families visiting toy libraries, but for the volunteers themselves. Whether it’s meeting other parents, giving back to the community, building skills or being part of something meaningful, volunteering at a toy library can make a real difference for everyone involved.

To every toy library volunteer, thank you for everything you do for your community.
