The Murray SES Unit plays a key role in countering the effects of natural and man-made emergencies, within the Shire of Murray in Western Australia. They are trained and equipped to help their community across a range of functions, and their primary purpose is to assist the most vulnerable members of the community. The Western Australian State Emergency Servic

e (SES) is a volunteer based division of the Department Fire and Emergency Services of Western Australia. It plays a key role in countering the effects of natural and man-made emergencies. The State Emergency Service is a national organisation of volunteers - 'ordinary people doing extraordinary things'. The SES is designed to empower people to help themselves and others in their community in times of emergency and disaster. The basic concept is one of self-help and mutual assistance within each community.

It's a time to show appreciation for the State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers who support West Australians during storms, floods and other emergencies, and thank them for their hard work and dedication to serving our community 🤝

Thanks to Alex and the team from Cockburn SES for putting on an amazing WOW Day Challenge!

Our members had a fantastic time participating in the games/events, making new friends and seeing how others do things. Such a wonderful opportunity and lots of fun for all.

Today we recognise not just the thousands of SES volunteers across the country but the families, friends and employers that support us in helping the community in times of need.

Did you know that the SES is responsible for managing response to:
- Storm
- Cyclone
- Tsunami
- Earthquake &
- Flood

In addition to this, we provide critical support in conducting search operations (via land, boat, air), cliff/cave reacue & fire support!! 🚣‍♀️ 🔥

We are open 24/7 and you can call for assistance on 132 500.

The iconic Waroona Cow is proudly wearing orange this May in support of our incredible State Emergency Service volunteers! Dressed outside the Waroona Visitor Centre in a personalised SES uniform handmade locally, Mooriel is dressed to impress and show support for our dedicated vollies.

Now it's your turn! Throw on a splash of orange this WOW Day (Wear Orange Wednesday) on Wednesday 20 May 2026, and help us celebrate the volunteers who are always there when our communities need them most.

This National Volunteer Week, we extend our gratitude to all our volunteers across the Bush Fire Service, Volunteer Fire and Emergency Service, Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service, Marine Rescue WA and the State Emergency Service.
