Bloodwood Tree Association (BTA) is an Incorporated Aboriginal organisation based in South Hedland and was formed in November 1977 in response to the first mining resources boom that saw the displacement of Aboriginal people from Port Hedland to the newly constructed “suburban” town site of South Hedland, where the lack of support and general services, plus the exclusion of Aboriginal people from

employment into the mining and services sector led to social inequity and upheaval. The organisation provides services for the homeless and alcohol affected people in need and has over the years provided, and continues to seek to develop projects such as the better provision of appropriate housing and shelter, food, clothing, education, employment and economic development, and give advice and advocacy to people in need. Over more than thirty years of services to the community, Bloodwood Tree has evolved into one of the largest Aboriginal organisations in the Port Hedland area, continuing to supply those basic and much needed services to the community, while building the capacity of the organisation to bring about mainstream services including basic employability skills to facilitate jobs training and economic development through sustainable employment.
